About Spain Sworn Translators: how we coordinate your translation

Spain Sworn Translators arranges sworn translations into Spanish (traducción jurada), each signed by a translator appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC). We serve people living in Spain, and those moving here, who file with Extranjería, nationality, the Registro Civil or a notary. A short certificate costs from €29, usually in 24–48 hours. Upload a photo; you get a written quotation first.

Who are we and what do we do?

We are a sworn translation agency (agencia de traducción jurada) that coordinates MAEC-appointed sworn translators. We do not sign translations ourselves. We manage quotes, deadlines, name checks and delivery. A MAEC-appointed sworn translator certifies each translation. Our contact details are at the end of this page.

Our mission: an official translation with no surprises

Our aim is simple. Anyone filing a foreign document in Spain should know what it costs and when it arrives, before paying anything. They should also know it will be signed by a properly appointed sworn translator.

That matters because the rules confuse many people. In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. A certified translation made outside Spain, for example by a UK or US translator, is not a sworn translation. Most Spanish offices won't accept it. Some languages have no sworn translator at all. According to the official register as of August 2026, there are none for Hindi, Punjabi, Nepali, Tagalog, Tamil or Sinhala. We explain the English-document route honestly in those cases.

What every order includes:

  • a fixed total and delivery date, before payment;
  • a MAEC-appointed sworn translator who holds every authorisation Spain requires;
  • a draft of names, dates and places for you to approve before the seal is applied;
  • the apostille translated together with the document, as Spanish offices expect;
  • a digitally signed PDF, with paper by courier if an office insists;
  • a free re-issue with priority if a translation is rejected on formal grounds; see how a free re-issue works.

Are we a government office or a gestoría?

No. Spain Sworn Translators is a private business. We are not affiliated with the MAEC, any Spanish consulate, BLS International, Extranjería or any other authority. We are not a gestoría or law firm either. We do not file applications, represent clients or give legal advice; we translate documents.

Residents usually need an Extranjería sworn translation for TIE, renewal or arraigo files, or a nationality file translation. People still abroad need a Spain visa sworn translation for the consulate. The office decides on your file; we make sure the translation meets its formal rules.

How does an order work with the sworn translators who sign for you?

Every translator who signs for us is a MAEC-appointed sworn translator (traductor jurado). Each one is appointed for one language pair, so we assign the translator for your document's language. Every one is listed on the official MAEC register and works with their own official seal.

  1. You upload scans. Every page, the apostille and your deadline. Originals are never needed.
  2. We check the file and quote. You get one fixed total and a delivery date.
  3. You approve a draft. You confirm names, dates and places against your passport.
  4. The translator signs. You receive a digitally signed PDF, or paper where an office requires it.

Sworn translators are appointed under Real Decreto 724/2020. Their translations are official in Spain without further legalisation. The full order flow is on how to order a sworn translation, and starting prices for each document are on our price list. Certificates start from €29; we email a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it.

Who checks your translation before it reaches you?

Every translation passes three checks before delivery: by our coordination team, the sworn translator and you. Each check has a different job. The sworn translator alone certifies the translation and is responsible for its accuracy.

Who What they check When
Our coordination team Every page and stamp is present, the apostille is on, and names match the passport Before the quote
The MAEC-appointed sworn translator Faithful, complete translation, then the certification formula, signature and seal Before the draft, and again before signing
You Spelling of names, dates and places At the draft stage, before the seal

The certification states that the translation is "fiel y completa", as the MAEC's certification rules require. Where a spelling differs from your passport, the translator adds a note instead of changing the document. We check each translator in the official MAEC list before their first job, and you can check them yourself at any time. Their credentials are set out on the MAEC sworn translators we work with.

Is Spain Sworn Translators legit? Four checks you can make yourself

Yes, and you do not have to take our word for it. Take a birth certificate order for the Registro Civil: you can test us in four ways.

  • The translator. Every page of your translation carries the sworn translator's official seal and signature. Look up the name and number on it in the official MAEC search (Buscador-STIJ). Our guide on how to verify a sworn translator in Spain shows each step.
  • The signature. Check the electronic signature on your PDF in VALIDe, the Spanish government's validation service named in Orden AUC/213/2025. Adobe Reader also shows it.
  • A rejection. Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds, such as a wrong date or a missing stamp; see our re-issue policy.
  • Your data and your deadline. Files are deleted within 7 days of delivery, under our privacy policy. For a close date, our same-day and 24-hour service says honestly what can be done.

How do we work with law firms and companies?

Firms get one contact per matter and one fixed quote per client file. We use one translator per language pair and coordinate them into one delivery, so names stay consistent. Drafts go to your team or your client for sign-off.

  • Data processing agreement (GDPR art. 28, encargo de tratamiento): signed on request.
  • Non-disclosure agreement: signed on request.
  • Invoices show your firm's name and tax or VAT number.

Terms for law firms, gestorías, employers and relocation companies are on sworn translation for law firms and gestorías.

What will we never do?

We will never sell appointments, give legal advice or promise that an office will accept a file. Only a MAEC-appointed sworn translator can sign an official sworn translation. Only the office you file with decides on your application.

  • Appointments. We only translate. We never sell appointments. If someone charges you for a cita, that is not us.
  • Legal advice. We tell you what an official checklist says. Your lawyer or gestor advises on the law.
  • Promises about outcomes. We stand behind the translation, not the office's decision on your case.
  • Leaving things out. We never skip a stamp, signature or apostille on a page we translate.

How do we check the official rules we publish?

Every rule page links its official sources and shows a last-checked date. Sources are BOE texts, ministry information sheets, consulate checklists and the HCCH apostille table. Where we rely on a secondary source, we name it. We re-check a page whenever a source changes, and the last-checked date shows when.

Where official sources disagree, such as two consulates' checklists, the page says so. It then tells you to follow your own office's list. The full method, including how guides are checked and how to report an error, is in our editorial and fact-check policy. Last checked: 1 October 2026.
