Transcripts of 2–5 pages take 2–3 working days. The Ministry has up to 6 months to decide, and translations never expire, so you order once. Moving to Spain to study or work? The same translations serve you from abroad.

Do I need homologación or equivalencia for my degree?
Homologation (homologación) makes your foreign degree equal to a specific Spanish degree. It gives access to a regulated profession, such as nursing. Equivalence (equivalencia de títulos) makes it equal to a level, Grado or Máster, in a field. It gives no right to practise a regulated profession. The translations are the same for both.
Both homologación and equivalencia are governed by Real Decreto 889/2022. Both procedures are handled by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
| Homologación | Equivalencia | |
|---|---|---|
| Result | Equal to a specific Spanish degree | Equal to a level (Grado or Máster) in a field |
| Regulated profession | Gives access, for example nursing | No right to practise one |
| Ministry fee | €166.50 (tasa 790-107) | €166.50 (tasa 790-107) |
Nursing also needs a B2 Spanish certificate. See nurse homologation Spain translation. Once homologated, nurses and doctors joining a colegio often need a certificate of good standing translated into Spanish.
Which documents does the Ministry need translated for homologation?
The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities needs your degree certificate and an academic certificate. The academic certificate shows the programme's official length, the subjects passed and each subject's hours or ECTS credits. Both are apostilled or legalised, then sworn-translated into Spanish. The Ministry may also ask for syllabi (programas).
This follows RD 889/2022, article 13.1.d. We provide a sworn translation of transcript and syllabus for homologación in one order, with one translator and one spelling of your name.
- Degree certificate: degree certificate sworn translation for homologation
- Academic transcript or mark sheets: academic transcript sworn translation for homologation
- Syllabus, only if the Ministry asks: syllabus sworn translation for homologation
- The apostille or legalisation on each: apostille and sworn translation
If your transcript does not show hours or credits per subject, ask your university for a certificate that states them. Graduates from India have their own checklist: see Indian degree homologation in Spain.
Who can do the official translation for homologation?
The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities requires an official translation (traducción oficial) for documents not in Spanish. It accepts a sworn translator appointed by MAEC, among some other routes. A MAEC sworn translation is official and valid in Spain without further legalisation, so it is the simplest choice.
For an official translation for degree homologation, the Ministry's translations page adds four useful points:
- Bilingual documents. A document written entirely in two languages needs a Spanish translation of only one of them.
- No expiry. In the Ministry's words, "translations do not expire".
- UK and US documents. They must be apostilled, whatever their date.
- Digital or paper. Since 8 March 2025, a digitally signed sworn translation is legally valid; paper remains valid too.

How long does homologation take, and when should I order translations?
The Ministry has a maximum of 6 months to decide on homologation. With no decision by then, the application is treated as refused by silence. Translations do not expire, so order them as soon as your apostilled documents arrive, then file online without waiting.
You apply online at universidades.sede.gob.es and pay the Ministry fee of €166.50 (tasa 790-107, 2026; Ministry fee page).
| Document | Standard turnaround |
|---|---|
| Degree certificate (1 page) | 24–48 hours |
| Academic transcript (2–5 pages) | 2–3 working days |
| Full syllabus (6–10 pages) | 3–5 working days |
| Syllabus over 10 pages | Custom deadline, confirmed with the quote |

How do I prepare a foreign degree from India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Nigeria or Morocco?
The route before translation depends on the country that issued your degree. India needs state attestation, then the MEA apostille. Pakistan needs HEC attestation for degrees, then the MOFA apostille. The Philippines needs a CHED CAV, then the DFA apostille. Nigeria needs two-step legalisation, and Morocco uses the apostille. The apostille or legalisation always comes first.
Already living in Spain? You rarely need to fly home. A relative or someone holding your power of attorney can usually handle attestation and apostille for you. Check the route with your country's consulate in Spain. Then send us scans once the apostille is on.
Degree homologation documents translation from India
Degrees and mark sheets are attested by the state first, then apostilled by the MEA through its outsourced centres. Laminated certificates can be refused for apostille, so keep originals unlaminated. Full checklist: Indian degree homologation in Spain.
Degree homologation documents translation from Pakistan
Degrees and transcripts are attested by HEC (IBCC covers school certificates only), then apostilled by MOFA. Most are issued in English. See Pakistani documents sworn translation for Spain.
Degree homologation documents translation from the Philippines
College records, including the transcript of records, need a CHED CAV before the DFA apostille. The DFA also offers an eApostille for CHED eCAVs. See Philippine documents sworn translation for Spain.
Degree homologation documents translation from Nigeria
Nigeria is not an Apostille Convention party. Certificates are usually verified by the Federal Ministry of Education first. The legalisation route is MFA Abuja, then the Spanish Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos, depending on your state. See Nigerian documents sworn translation for Spain.
Degree homologation documents translation from Morocco
Moroccan documents take an apostille. Moroccan apostilles are issued by the courts (judicial documents) or the provincial or prefectural authorities (administrative documents). Degrees are often in French or Arabic, or both. A document written entirely in two languages needs translating from only one. See Moroccan documents sworn translation for Spain and French to Spanish sworn translation.
Degrees from other countries and languages
Degrees from India, Pakistan, the Philippines and Nigeria are usually in English: see our English to Spanish sworn translation page. Ukrainian graduates can use our Ukrainian to Spanish sworn translation service. Brazilian degrees are apostilled by a cartório: see Brazilian documents sworn translation for Spain. More Indian paperwork: Indian documents sworn translation for Spain. Why order matters: apostille before or after translation.
What do we check before your homologation translations are sealed?
Before the seal is applied, we check that the apostille is translated and every name matches your passport. We check that subject hours or credits appear as the Ministry requires. Grades are translated exactly as written, never converted. You approve a draft first.
- The apostille or legalisation is on each document and translated with it.
- Every name matches your passport. Where spellings differ, the translator adds a note.
- The programme length, subjects and hours or ECTS credits are all translated.
- Grades and grading scales are reproduced exactly, never converted.
- Every page, seal and signature is translated.

Can I trust a translator I have never met with my degree?
Yes. Every translator we work with is a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the MAEC and listed on its official register. Their seal on each page can be matched on that list. If the Ministry rejects the translation on formal grounds, it is redone free and prioritised.
- Is the translator real? Each one is MAEC-appointed and signs digital work with a qualified electronic signature. Here is how to verify a Spanish sworn translator.
- What if the Ministry objects? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds, for example a transcript page whose credit hours were left out. Read our re-issue terms.
- Is my data safe? Your files are deleted within 7 days of delivery. See our privacy policy.

How much does a sworn translation for degree homologation cost?
A sworn translation for degree homologation is priced per document, with the apostille included. A degree certificate costs from €29 and takes 24–48 hours. Transcripts are priced per page, from €29. The Ministry's €166.50 fee is separate, and you pay it to the Ministry directly. As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price.

Frequently asked questions
Can I submit homologation translations online?
Yes. You file the homologation online at universidades.sede.gob.es and upload your documents there. A digitally signed sworn translation has been legally valid since 8 March 2025.
What happens if homologation is refused or conditioned?
A conditioned homologation means you must complete academic practice, an aptitude test, a project or courses within 4 years. If you disagree with a decision, you can file an optional recurso de reposición, or go to court within 2 months.
Do I need my average grade converted?
No, not as part of the translation. Sworn translators translate grades exactly; they never convert them. Converting your average grade is a separate, free online Ministry procedure: Equivalencia de la nota media.
Can I reuse an old sworn translation for my homologation?
Yes, if it is a sworn translation of the same documents. The Ministry states that translations do not expire. The apostille must still be on the document and translated with it.
How do I send my degree for a homologation translation?
Send a scan or photo of every page of your degree and transcript, including the apostille. Originals are never needed. Tell us your country and whether you need homologación or equivalencia. You then see a fixed total price and delivery date.
