Your route in three steps: 1. Get the certificate in Bangladesh → 2. MOFA e-Apostille on the MyGov platform → 3. Sworn translation into Spanish
We are not affiliated with Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Spain in Dhaka or BLS.
Since when does Bangladesh use the apostille?
Bangladesh joined the Apostille Convention on 29 July 2024, and it came into force on 30 March 2025. Since then, Bangladeshi documents for Spain carry an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). A MAEC-appointed sworn translator then translates the document and its apostille.
The one fact that matters: Bangladesh is now an apostille country, with the Convention in force since 30 March 2025. But the Embassy of Spain in Dhaka's family reunification checklist still says certificates "must be legalized" by MOFA. Follow your current checklist, and ask the office receiving your file if the two seem to conflict.
| Step | Where | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Get the document | The issuing office, for example Bangladesh Police for the police clearance | Ask for an English version where one exists |
| 2. Apostille | MOFA, through its e-Apostille service on MyGov | Always before the translation |
| 3. Sworn translation | Online, with us | Certificates and degrees 24–48 hours |
| 4. Submit | Embassy of Spain in Dhaka through BLS (Banani, Dhaka), or an office in Spain | Validity is set by each office |
The finished sworn translation is official and valid in Spain without further legalisation. In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator.
Where do Bangladeshi documents get apostilled?
Bangladeshi documents are apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), through its e-Apostille service on the MyGov platform. You apply online and receive the apostille for the document. Only after that does the sworn translation start, covering the document and the apostille together.
We translate the apostille with the document, as Spanish offices expect. Why the order matters: apostille before or after translation. For the steps in other countries, see apostille and sworn translation.
If you apply through the BLS Spain visa centre in Banani, Dhaka, submit the translations with your visa file.
Already in Spain? Getting Bangladeshi documents ready from here
Many Bangladeshi nationals who need these documents already live in Spain. You can often prepare your documents without travelling. The police clearance is applied for online, and the MOFA e-Apostille runs on the MyGov platform. Check whether each step accepts applications from abroad before you start.
| Step | Route from Spain | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Police clearance | Online at pcc.police.gov.bd | Whether you can apply and give fingerprints from Spain; ask the Embassy of Bangladesh in Madrid |
| Birth registration, nikah nama, degrees | A relative in Bangladesh gets the certificate | Ask for the English version where one exists |
| MOFA e-Apostille | Online through MyGov, or a relative applies | Whether an authority letter is needed |
| Translation | Send us scans from Spain | Every page, including the apostille |
Bangladeshi residents in Spain usually need these documents for arraigo, TIE renewals, bringing family members or registering a marriage. For each procedure, see Extranjería sworn translation or Registro Civil sworn translation. We do not give immigration advice; ask your lawyer or gestoría what your file needs, then get a fixed quote for your Bangladeshi certificates.
Which Bangladeshi documents does Spain ask for?
It depends on the procedure, but many files need a police clearance certificate, a birth registration certificate and a marriage certificate (nikah nama). Workers and students may add degree certificates. Each is apostilled by MOFA first, then sworn-translated into Spanish with its apostille.
Bangladesh documents for Spain, and where each one is translated:
| Bangladeshi document | Before translation | Translation page |
|---|---|---|
| Police clearance certificate | Bangladesh Police online, then MOFA apostille | Police clearance certificate sworn translation |
| Birth registration certificate | Digital certificate, then MOFA apostille | Birth certificate sworn translation |
| Nikah nama (marriage certificate) | MOFA apostille | Marriage certificate sworn translation |
| University degree | MOFA apostille | Degree certificate sworn translation |
Documents issued in English go through our English to Spanish sworn translation service. Bengali-only documents: we confirm translator availability and a date before you pay (see the FAQ).
How do I get a Bangladesh police clearance for Spain?
Apply online with Bangladesh Police at the official police clearance portal. Then get the MOFA apostille and send us a scan. Validity is set by each office, commonly 3 to 6 months, so request it close to your appointment. Last checked: 1 October 2026.
How do I translate a Bangladeshi birth certificate for Spain?
The birth registration certificate is digital, with Bengali and English versions available. Ask for the English version, get the MOFA apostille, then send both for a Bangladesh birth certificate translation into Spanish. That keeps the names easy to check.
Does a Bangladeshi nikah nama need an apostille for Spain?
Yes. The nikah nama proves a marriage, usually for family reunification, and MOFA apostilles it first. The translator then reproduces exactly what is written. For a Bengali-only nikah nama, we confirm translator availability and a delivery date in your quote.

What if my NID and passport names differ?
Name differences between the national ID card (NID) and the passport are common in Bangladeshi files. The sworn translator must reproduce each document exactly as written. We check every name against your passport and add a translator's note where spellings differ, so the office can follow it.
A note explains a difference; it cannot change the document. If a name is clearly wrong, ask the issuing office about a correction before the apostille. More on this in our guide to single-name passports.
What goes wrong most often with Bangladeshi documents for Spain?
Most delays come from timing and names, not the translation:
- Translating too early. The apostille must be on the document first.
- Expired certificates. Check each office's validity rule before you order.
- Agents. Some agents charge high fees for translations or promise appointments. You can order online and check the translator yourself in the official MAEC search (Buscador-STIJ).
- Unanswered correction notices. If Extranjería sends a requerimiento, you have 10 working days (días hábiles) under Ley 39/2015, art. 68. See requerimiento Extranjería translation.

Before you order without an agent
An agent in Dhaka may promise a "certified" copy that no Spanish office accepts. These four checks protect your file instead.
- Is the translator real? Every translator we use is a Traductor-Intérprete Jurado appointed by the MAEC, even for a Bengali-only nikah nama. The seal on your translation can be checked in the official MAEC search, step by step in how to verify a Spanish sworn translator.
- What if the office rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds. Read how a free re-issue works.
- Is my data safe? Files are deleted within 7 days of delivery, as set out in our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
Are older legalisation guides for Bangladesh still valid?
Mostly not. Since 30 March 2025, Bangladeshi documents for Spain use the MOFA apostille. The Dhaka embassy checklist still says "legalized by MOFA", so follow your current checklist.
Can Bengali documents be translated directly into Spanish?
It depends. According to the official MAEC list as of August 2026, there are only about 2 Bengali sworn translators, so we cannot promise one is available. Where an English version exists, we translate from English. For a Bengali-only document, we confirm availability and a delivery date in your quote. See sworn translation into Spanish from any language.
Do I need an agent to get an official translation of Bangladeshi documents?
No. You can order directly online and agree a fixed price before you pay.
