We are not affiliated with the MEA, MOFA, DFA, FCDO, US Department of State or any other apostille authority. We never issue apostilles; the authority in the issuing country does.
What happens next
- 1We confirm whether your document needs an apostille or legalisation, and who issues it.
- 2You receive a fixed total price and delivery date before you pay.
- 3You approve a draft, then receive the digitally signed PDF.
Can you handle the apostille and the translation together?
We translate; the issuing country's authority apostilles. You (or someone at home) obtain the apostille on the original, using the route we give you. Then a MAEC-appointed sworn translator translates the document and its apostille together, from a scan. The apostille always comes first, so the translation covers both.
| Step | Who does it | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Check the route (apostille or legalisation) | We do, free, when you upload | A scan or photo |
| 2. Get the apostille or legalisation | The issuing country's authority; you apply, or a relative or representative at home | The original document |
| 3. Sworn translation of document and apostille | A MAEC-appointed sworn translator we coordinate | A scan of the stamped document |
| 4. File in Spain | You, your lawyer or gestoría | The signed PDF, or paper if the office insists |
We do not obtain apostilles for you. We give you the official route and translate as soon as the stamp is on.
Full explanation of the order: why the apostille goes on before the translation.
Does the apostille need to be translated?
Yes. Spanish offices such as Extranjería, the Registro Civil and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities expect the apostille translated together with the document. The apostille is part of the public document. A MAEC-appointed sworn translator translates both in one sworn translation, so one seal covers the whole file.
- Apostille translation for Spain is not a separate order. It is included in the price of the document it sits on.
- The apostille text is mostly standard. Its ten numbered fields are translated as printed, with names and dates exactly as written.
- A loose apostille counts too. If it is attached on a separate sheet, that sheet is translated and sealed with the document.
Which countries can you get apostilles from?
We do not issue apostilles for any country; the issuing authority does. What we give you is the exact route for your country, and the translation once it is done. Countries in the Apostille Convention use one apostille. Others need two-step legalisation, ending with a Spanish embassy or consulate.

Getting the apostille while you live in Spain
You usually cannot apostille a foreign document in Spain. Common routes are a relative or a representative with a power of attorney at home, or the authority's postal or online service where one exists. Some countries' consulates in Spain can help; check with yours. Once the stamp is on, send us a scan.

How long does an apostille plus translation take?
Total time is the apostille time plus the translation time. The issuing authority sets the apostille time. A UK paper apostille is usually up to 25 working days; a US federal one takes about four weeks by mail. Once the apostille is on, the sworn translation of a standard certificate takes 24–48 hours.
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Apostille or legalisation | Set by the issuing country (see the table above) |
| Sworn translation of a standard certificate and its apostille | 24–48 hours |
| Degree or good-standing certificate | 24–48 hours |
| Academic transcript | 2–5 working days |
Already have the apostille? Then the apostille translation is part of the same certificate order. Received a requerimiento from Extranjería? See correction notice sworn translation, or our urgent sworn translation service.
What happens to my original document?
It stays with you. The apostille is placed on the original by the issuing authority, so the original goes to them, not to us. The sworn translation needs only a scan or photo of the stamped document. You keep the original to show the Spanish office if it asks.
What we check before your apostille translation is sealed
- The apostille or legalisation belongs to this document and covers every stamp it should.
- Every name matches your passport; differences get a translator's note.
- Every page, back and stamp is translated, with the apostille.
- You approve a draft of names, dates and places before the seal.

Unsure about ordering? Apostille translation answers
An apostille often costs weeks of waiting, as with a UK paper apostille or a US federal one. So the translation must be right first time, and you should know who makes it.
- Is the translator real? Every translator we work with is appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) and holds every registration Spain requires. Their seal can be checked on the official MAEC list; see how to verify a Spanish sworn translator.
- What if the office rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds. See how a free re-issue works.
- Is my data safe? Your files are deleted within 7 days of delivery, as set out in our privacy policy.
- Is my apostille wrong? If the apostille is missing or issued by the wrong authority, we tell you before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need my original document for the apostille?
We never need your original. The issuing authority needs it to place the apostille. The translation is made from a scan of the stamped document.
Do you translate passport copies with an apostille?
Yes, when one is really needed, usually a notarised copy for a Spanish notary, for example with a power of attorney sworn translation. For an NIE or a residence permit, a passport copy normally needs no translation.
My translation was made before the apostille. Is it still usable?
Usually not, because Spanish offices expect the document and apostille translated together. Send the apostilled document and we quote a translation covering both.
Should I choose paper if the translation will be used outside Spain?
Yes. If the translation itself must be legalised for use outside Spain, paper is safer, as MAEC legalisation does not accept electronic signatures.
