Which documents we translate into Spanish, and for which office
Living in Spain and holding papers in another language? These are the documents Spanish offices ask for most often, for Extranjería, nationality, the Registro Civil and homologation. We translate each into Spanish as a traducción jurada signed by a MAEC-appointed sworn translator. Certificates from €29, fixed before you pay. Certificates usually take 24–48 hours; degrees and rarer languages take longer. Moving to Spain? Your consulate needs the same translation.

Which document page do I need?
Match the Spanish wording on your office's checklist. Offices name documents in Spanish, so the term below tells you which page fits.
| The checklist says | What it means | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Certificado de nacimiento (literal) | Full birth certificate | Birth certificate |
| Certificado de matrimonio | Marriage certificate | Marriage certificate |
| Sentencia de divorcio | Divorce decree | Divorce decree |
| Certificado de antecedentes penales | Police or criminal record certificate | Police clearance |
| Título y certificado académico | Degree certificate and transcript | Degree certificate and transcript |
| Medios económicos suficientes | Proof of funds, such as bank statements | Bank statements |
| Certificado médico | Medical certificate for a visa | Medical certificate |
| Poder notarial | Power of attorney | Power of attorney |
Translate only what the checklist names. A sworn translation of a document the office did not ask for is money spent for nothing.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the apostille on my document before translation?
Usually yes. For Spain, the apostille or legalisation goes on the original first. The sworn translator then translates the document and the apostille together. Public documents from EU countries need no apostille; see the EU multilingual form. Check apostille before or after translation for the order.
Is a translation of a scan accepted, or do I need the original?
A sworn translator can work from a clear scan of the full document. You receive a digitally signed PDF, which Spanish offices accept for online filings (Orden AUC/213/2025); see can a sworn translation be digital. Keep the original with its apostille, because the office may ask to see it at your appointment.
