Living in Spain: when do foreign bank statements need a sworn translation?
Residents usually need translated foreign bank statements when Extranjería must see income or savings held abroad. Typical cases are family reunification, residence renewals based on your own funds, and files your gestoría or lawyer prepares. Statements from a Spanish bank are already in Spanish and need no translation.
- Family reunification from Spain. The resident applies on form EX-02. Statements from a bank abroad are foreign documents, and Hoja 8 asks for a sworn translator. See family reunification Spain sworn translation.
- Renewing a residence permit based on funds, such as non-lucrative residence. Check the Hoja informativa for your renewal; we translate the statements it asks for.
- Files for your gestoría or immigration lawyer. Send us their document list, and we quote only what is listed. Lawyers can use our sworn translation for immigration lawyers.
Most other residence procedures, such as Extranjería renewals and TIE files, need civil and police documents rather than statements. You can browse every document we translate.
What does a sworn Spanish translation of a bank statement look like?
A sworn Spanish translation of a bank statement is an official translation that reproduces every page in order. It covers the account holder, account number, dates, transactions, balances and the bank's stamp and signature. A MAEC-appointed sworn translator then adds a certification, seal, signature and MAEC number to each page.
Amounts and currencies stay exactly as printed. The translator never converts rupees, pounds or dollars into euros.
How much does it cost to translate bank statements into Spanish?
Translating bank statements into Spanish is priced per page, because six months of statements can run to many pages. Our sworn translation starts from €24 per page, and you see one fixed total before you pay.
As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price. Sworn translators set their fees freely. Compare sworn translation prices for each document, or get a fixed quote for your bank statements from a scan.
| Service | What it covers | Price | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Statement pages with the bank's stamp | From €24 per page | 1 page: 24–48 hours; 2–5 pages: 2–3 working days; 6–10 pages: 3–5 working days |
| Express | Same pages, delivered sooner | +30% for 24-hour delivery; +60% same day (min €25 extra) | 24 hours; same day for 1–2 pages if paid by 12:00 noon (Spanish time) on a working day |
| Bank letter | One-page balance or account letter | From €24 | 24–48 hours |
| Apostille or legalisation page | Only where your consulate asks | Included | Same as order |
| Paper copy by courier | Only if an office insists | €9 tracked within Spain; international from €29 | 24–48 hours within Spain |
These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it.
Any apostille is translated together with the document, as Spanish offices expect.
Need bank statements translated before an appointment?
Statements are often the last document ready, because they must cover the latest months. Add your cita or visa appointment date when you upload, and the quote shows a delivery date that fits it. Same-day options and cut-off times are on our urgent sworn translation page.
Do bank statements need to be translated for a Spanish visa?
It depends on your consulate and your visa. Some Spanish missions want every foreign document, proof of funds included, in Spanish; others exempt financial documents. Mumbai's student checklist exempts economic proof from sworn translation; for other visas, check your mission's current checklist. Mumbai's digital nomad sheet asks for all English documents to be translated by a traductor jurado.
The Mumbai student visa checklist exempts "passports and economic proof documents". The New Delhi student visa checklist has no general translation line. Both list six months of statements, stamped and signed by the bank. Last checked: 1 October 2026.
So check whether your mission asks for financial documents in Spanish. Unsure? Upload the checklist with your statements, and we tell you plainly whether a translation is needed.
What do bank statements from India, the UK and the USA need before translation?
Bank statements usually need only the bank's stamp and signature before translation. An apostille or legalisation is needed only if your consulate asks for one. Statements from India, the UK, the USA, Pakistan, the Philippines and Nigeria are usually in English. They follow our English to Spanish sworn translation route.
| Country | What applicants usually send | Before translation |
|---|---|---|
| Indian documents | Last 6 months, stamped and signed by the bank | Bank stamp. Mumbai's student checklist exempts economic proof |
| UK documents | Bank and pension statements | Bank stamp; FCDO apostille only if asked |
| US documents | Bank and investment statements | Bank stamp; apostille only if asked |
| Pakistani documents | Bank statements | Bank stamp; MOFA apostille only if asked |
| Philippine documents | Bank statements | Bank stamp; DFA apostille only if asked |
| Nigerian documents | Bank statements | Bank stamp; legalisation only if asked: MFA Abuja, then the Spanish Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos, depending on your state |
What should I send for a bank statement translation?
Send a clear scan or PDF of every statement page, the account holder's passport photo page and your consulate's checklist. If a parent or spouse sponsors you, add proof of the link. Originals are never needed. We check names against the passport before the translator starts.
- Every page, including any separate stamp page. Unlock password-protected PDFs first.
- The passport photo page. We add a translator's note where spellings differ.
- Sponsor proof, usually a birth certificate sworn translation into Spanish or a marriage certificate.
- Your visa type and appointment date.
Which visas require translated bank statements?
Spanish visas based on funds or income ask for bank statements: the student, digital nomad and non-lucrative visas, and family reunification. Whether statements must be in Spanish depends on the mission and visa type. Where a translation is asked for, an official sworn translation is the safe choice.
How much money do I need in the bank for a Spanish student visa?
Student visa funds are €600 per month (100 per cent of IPREM), plus 75% for the first family member and 50% for each further one. Indian checklists ask for six months of the sponsor's or student's statements. Indian students: see what New Delhi and Mumbai ask for on our Spain student visa from India translation page. Other countries: Spain student visa sworn translation.
Bank statement sworn translation for digital nomad visa
Income must reach 200% of Spain's minimum wage, the SMI. In 2026 the SMI is €1,221 a month, paid 14 times a year (RD 126/2026). Consulates usually state the threshold as €2,442 a month (2 × €1,221); check your own consulate's figure. The Mumbai digital nomad checklist wants every English document in Spanish. See digital nomad visa Spain sworn translation and our digital nomad visa eligibility guide.
Bank statement sworn translation for non lucrative visa
The non-lucrative visa asks for €2,400 per month plus €600 for each family member. Whether your statements need a sworn translation for this visa depends on your mission, so check its current checklist. See non lucrative visa Spain sworn translation and our non-lucrative visa income and document rules.
Family reunification is filed by the resident in Spain, so it is covered in the first section above. Another visa type? See sworn translation for a Spain visa.
How can I reduce translation pages for bank statements?
Translate only what your mission asks for. First check whether your checklist exempts financial documents from translation. Then send only the period and accounts it names, often the last six months. Ask your bank whether a balance certificate is accepted by your consulate, rather than assuming it replaces statements.
- Check the exemption first. It can mean no statement translation at all.
- Match the period. Six months means six, not twelve.
- Send only the accounts your checklist asks for.
- Get the stamp before translating. A stamp added later is missing from the Spanish version.
We never promise that a bank letter replaces statements; your consulate decides. We count pages from your scan before quoting.
Why are translated bank statements refused, and how do we prevent it?
We check each point from your scan before translating:
- No bank stamp. We flag unstamped downloads.
- Months missing. We count the period against your checklist.
- Name mismatch. We add a translator's note.
- Not a sworn translator. Verify a Spanish sworn translator in the MAEC search (Buscador-STIJ).
Student files usually add a police clearance certificate sworn translation and an academic transcript sworn translation.

Frequently asked questions
Do you translate digital bank statements?
Yes. We translate PDF statements downloaded from online banking. Indian student checklists ask for statements stamped and signed by the bank, so check whether your mission accepts an unstamped download.
Do payslips and tax returns need translating too?
It depends on your mission. Indian student checklists list ITRs for three years with a PAN copy, and six months of payslips. Mumbai's student checklist exempts economic proof documents; for other visas, check your mission's checklist.
Can I get my bank statements translated online for Spain?
Yes. You upload scans, approve a draft and receive a digitally signed PDF, legally valid since 8 March 2025 under Orden AUC/213/2025. Paper by courier is available if an office insists.
Is a certified bank statement translation for Spain the same as a sworn one?
No. In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. A certified translation made outside Spain, for example by a UK or US translator, is not a sworn translation. Most Spanish offices won't accept it. See sworn vs certified translation.
How do I order a sworn translation of my bank statements?
Send a scan or PDF of every statement page, plus your consulate checklist or Extranjería document list. We confirm which pages need a sworn translation into Spanish, and which do not. You see a fixed price and delivery date before you pay.
