Clients who need these translations usually already live in Spain, with birth certificates, criminal records, judgments or company papers issued abroad. Each translation is signed and sealed by a MAEC-appointed sworn translator, so every office receives an official document. One-page documents, degrees included, take 24–48 hours. Send one matter to get a fixed quote for your client file; nothing is charged before you accept it.

We work with MAEC-appointed sworn translators. We are not a gestoría or law firm, and we are not affiliated with any Spanish authority. We translate; we do not advise on the law. This page is for professional buyers; individuals can browse all sworn translation services.

Which firms and practice areas order from us?

Four kinds of professional client send us matters: immigration practices and gestorías, corporate teams, litigation and family-law firms, and employers or relocation companies. Each has its own page. That page covers the documents it files, the rules that apply and how a matter moves.

Your practice Typical files for clients in Spain Page
Gestorías Residence renewals, arraigo, reunification and nationality sets, often several clients at once This page
Immigration lawyers (abogados de extranjería) Requerimiento replies, arraigo and nationality files Sworn translation for immigration lawyers in Spain
Corporate and commercial firms Company documents and powers for notaries, the Registro Mercantil and the AEAT Corporate documents sworn translation in Spain
Litigation, family law and procuradores Foreign judgments, exequatur applications, evidence Court documents sworn translation in Spain
HR, global mobility, relocation Employee and family packs Sworn translation for relocation companies in Spain
Property and inheritance practices Death certificates, powers, wills-register certificates Sworn translation for property and inheritance in Spain

Spain had 5,869 practising gestores administrativos at the end of 2025, according to the Consejo General. Gestorías pay one price per client file (expediente). A procurador filing a foreign document can order the same way.

Most-used document pages: power of attorney sworn translation and divorce decree translation into Spanish. Also death certificate sworn translation and birth certificate sworn translation into Spanish.

How does a firm account work, from matter to invoice?

Your firm sends scans per matter and gets one fixed quote per client file. The quote shows the total and the delivery date. Your client approves a draft of names, dates and places. You then receive digitally signed PDFs, with paper by courier only if an office insists.

  1. Send the matter. Scans of every page, apostilles included, with your matter reference. Send it through the website form, by email (info@spainsworntranslators.com) or on WhatsApp.
  2. Fixed quote. Total and delivery date, before any charge.
  3. Client sign-off. Names are checked against the passport, with a translator's note where spellings differ. Your client or team approves the draft.
  4. Delivery. A PDF with a qualified electronic signature, valid since 8 March 2025 (Orden AUC/213/2025). Background: can a sworn translation be digital.

Each sworn translator is appointed for one language pair, so we use one translator per language pair and coordinate them into one delivery. A surname is then spelled the same way on every document. That matters when a family's files reach Extranjería and the Registro Civil months apart.

Account term What you get
Business account For law firms, gestorías, relocation agencies and companies, opened with your first matter
Account contact A dedicated account manager from 20 documents per month
Invoicing An invoice for every order, with your company name and NIF or VAT number. Monthly invoicing after your first 3 paid orders
Volume pricing 10% off at 5–19 documents a month, 15% at 20–49, 20% at 50+
Data protection We sign a data processing agreement (encargo de tratamiento) under GDPR art. 28

When is a sworn translation required, and when is it only the safe route?

It depends on where the document is filed. Extranjería asks for a sworn translator under Hoja 61. The AEAT and the Registro Civil require a translation. Civil courts allow a private translation that can be challenged. Notaries decide what they accept. A sworn translation has official status before all of them.

Where it is filed What the rule says What firms typically file
Extranjería (residence, arraigo, family) Hoja 61 (May 2025): a MAEC sworn translator, or a consular route followed by legalisation A MAEC sworn translation
AEAT: NIF for a foreign company Foreign documents "traducidos al castellano", plus apostille or legalisation; no translator type named A sworn translation
Registro Civil Ley 20/2011 art. 95: translation by a competent body or official; the Encargado may waive it A sworn translation
Civil courts LEC art. 144: a private translation is allowed; another party may challenge it within 5 days Often a sworn translation, to reduce challenge risk
Exequatur of a foreign judgment Ley 29/2015 art. 54: judgment legalised or apostilled, plus translations under LEC art. 144 As for civil courts
Notaries and the Property Registry RH art. 37, RN art. 150: a notary may translate; a registrar may skip it A sworn translation, after asking the notary
Internal review (contracts, due diligence) No filing Usually no sworn translation

Information, not legal advice. Your firm decides what each matter needs. Under RD 724/2020, sworn translations "tendrán carácter oficial" and may be filed with judicial and administrative bodies. We also offer non-sworn legal and general translation into Spanish. It suits documents that do not need a sworn translation, such as internal or reference copies.

Does a gestoría need a sworn translation for Extranjería?

Yes, in practice. Hoja informativa 61 (May 2025) asks for foreign documents to be translated by a MAEC sworn translator. The other routes go through a consulate and then legalisation. For a gestoría filing in Spain, the MAEC sworn translation is the direct route. It needs no further step.

Files gestorías send most: Extranjería sworn translation, arraigo sworn translation, Spanish nationality sworn translation and Registro Civil sworn translation.

Do Spanish courts accept a non-sworn translation?

Yes, in civil proceedings. LEC article 144 allows a private translation. Another party may challenge it within 5 days, and the court then orders an official one. Many firms file a sworn translation (including traducción jurada for exequátur) to reduce that risk. Detail for litigators: court document translation for Spanish proceedings.

Can a translation agency sign a data processing agreement with a law firm?

Yes. When we translate for your firm, we process your clients' personal data on your behalf. GDPR article 28 requires that processing to be governed by a contract with the processor. We sign a data processing agreement (encargo de tratamiento) with business clients.

Article 22 of the Estatuto General de la Abogacía (RD 135/2021) obliges lawyers to make collaborators respect professional secrecy. A translation supplier is one of those collaborators.

How fast can a firm get a batch of sworn translations?

One-page certificates take 24–48 hours, degrees and good-standing certificates included. Documents of 2–5 pages take 2–3 working days, and 6–10 pages take 3–5. Same-day suits 1–2 page certificates received and paid by 12:00 noon. Large batches are planned against your filing date.

Document set Turnaround
Birth, marriage, police or death certificate (1 page) 24–48 hours
Degree or good-standing certificate (1 page) 24–48 hours
Documents named in a requerimiento Same day by 20:00 for 1–2 pages paid by 12:00 noon (+60%, minimum €25)
Deeds, judgments, articles of association 2–3 working days for 2–5 pages; 3–5 for 6–10 pages
Rare languages (Chinese, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic) 3–4 working days for 1–2 pages; 5–7 for 3–10 pages
Multi-client batch or over 10 pages Custom deadline confirmed with the quote

A requerimiento de subsanación gives 10 working days (días hábiles) under Ley 39/2015 art. 68. Art. 30 sets how working days are counted. The office may extend it by up to 5 days if asked in time. See requerimiento Extranjería translation. For a hearing or signing this week, use our urgent sworn translation service.

Where we work with law firms and gestorías in Spain

Everywhere in Spain. The service is online, and a digitally signed PDF is valid in every province. Paper goes by courier only if an office insists. Firms on the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol and the Balearic Islands often handle British clients: see UK documents sworn translation for Spain.

What does a client file cost for a firm?

Firms pay one total per client file, apostille pages included, shown in a written quotation. Certificates start from €29 in common languages. Sworn translators in Spain set their fees freely: there is no official tariff under RD 724/2020.

Power of attorney From €39
Divorce decree or court judgment From €59
Corporate documents (deeds, articles, registry extracts, contracts) €0.12 per word, minimum €49

Monthly invoicing is available for registered businesses after the first 3 paid orders. The invoice is issued on the 1st of each month; payment is due within 15 days. We accept cards, PayPal and SEPA or international bank transfer. Prices include VAT where it applies. Business invoices show the VAT treatment (for example reverse charge for EU businesses). These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it.

As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price. Our page rates: sworn translation price.

Before your firm sends a first matter: four checks

A gestoría adding a supplier to an arraigo or nationality workflow needs four answers in writing. Here are ours.

  • Is the translator real? Every translator we work with is a Traductor-Intérprete Jurado appointed by the MAEC. Each holds every authorisation Spain requires for sworn translation. The seal on each page can be checked on the official MAEC list, Buscador-STIJ. Steps: how to verify a sworn translator in Spain.
  • What if an office rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds. Details: our re-issue terms.
  • Is client data safe? Files are deleted within 7 days of delivery, under our privacy policy and the data processing agreement we sign with you.
  • Filing date close? A client's requerimiento with days left can go in the upload form with its deadline. Same-day work is possible for short certificates through the urgent service.

In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. Background: sworn vs certified translation.

Frequently asked questions

Can we pay monthly by invoice?

Yes, after your first 3 paid orders. The monthly invoice is issued on the 1st, and payment is due within 15 days. Each invoice can carry your company name and NIF or VAT number.

Can a gestoría send several clients' files in one upload?

Yes. Label each client's documents with its own reference. You receive one quote per client file, so each can be invoiced to the right matter. One translator per language pair keeps each family's names consistent.

Can our clients upload documents directly?

Yes. Your client can send files through the website form, by email or on WhatsApp. Ask them to quote your firm's matter reference, so the quote and invoice go to your firm.

Do you work with firms outside Spain?

Yes, from scans, when their clients file in Spain. UK civil certificates and ACRO checks need a paper apostille. FBI checks need the federal apostille: US documents sworn translation for Spain. Indian files: Indian documents for Spain.

Is a local sworn translator needed for a filing in my city?

No. We work online, and a digitally signed sworn translation is valid in every Spanish office. If a translation will be used outside Spain, choose paper. MAEC legalisation does not accept electronic signatures.

How does a firm open an account and send its first matter?

Upload the scans for one matter, with your firm's name, NIF, matter reference, office and deadline. Within 1 hour during office hours, you receive a written quotation with the total and delivery date. Supplier checks: who we are.
