This page covers certificates for professionals: nurses, doctors, lawyers and similar. A company certificate of good standing belongs with our corporate documents sworn translation service.

We are not affiliated with any colegio, regulator or Spanish authority.

What is a certificate of good standing (certificado de no inhabilitación)?

A certificate of good standing is a letter from your professional regulator. It confirms that you are registered and not suspended or barred. Spanish colegios ask for one from the authority in your country of origin, as proof that you are not disqualified ("no estar inhabilitado").

Names differ by country, as the country table further down shows. Colegios usually describe the document by its content rather than by one fixed name. In Spanish it is a certificado de no inhabilitación profesional, sometimes simply called a certificado de good standing.

What does a sworn translation of a good standing certificate look like?

A sworn Spanish translation of a good standing certificate follows the original line by line. It covers your name, registration number, registration status, any conditions, dates, the signature and the regulator's seal. The MAEC-appointed sworn translator adds a signed certification, seal and MAEC number.

Sample: One-page PRC Certificate of Good Standing with DFA apostille beside its sworn Spanish translation; registration number and validity dates aligned;

In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. It is the route Spanish offices list as needing no further legalisation.

How much does a good standing certificate translation cost?

A good standing certificate translation costs from €29. It is usually one page, plus the apostille if your colegio asks for one. You see one fixed total before you pay. Standard delivery is 48 hours. Sworn translators set their fees freely, as there is no official tariff. As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price.

What is the good standing certificate called in each country?

Each regulator uses its own name and process for the good standing certificate. The UK NMC and GMC send theirs directly to the overseas regulator. The Philippine PRC issues a COGS at its regional offices. US nurses should ask their state board, as Nursys serves US states only.

Country Usual name and issuer What to know
UK (UK documents for Spain) NMC: certificate of current professional status (CCPS). GMC: certificate of good standing (CGS) Sent regulator to regulator. Valid 3 months
Philippines (Philippine documents for Spain) PRC Certificate of Good Standing (COGS), from a PRC Regional Office DFA apostilles PRC originals or certified true copies
India (Indian documents for Spain) Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council: Good Standing Certificate Other state councils: ask your council what it issues
USA (US documents for Spain) Ask your state board of nursing what it issues for an overseas regulator Nursys verification is for other US states only
Nigeria Letter from your professional regulator Ask your regulator what it issues for overseas use
EU countries Certificate from the home regulator Directive 2005/36: not more than 3 months old

Sources: NMC, GMC, PRC Citizen's Charter 2026, DFA, Kerala council and NCSBN Nursys. Last checked: 1 October 2026.

Before ordering a certificate of current professional status translation, ask the colegio what it needs. The NMC normally sends the CCPS straight to the overseas regulator.

Who needs a good standing certificate in Spain?

Nurses, doctors and other regulated professionals usually need a good standing certificate to join a Spanish colegio. Colegiación is compulsory to practise nursing in Spain. Homologation of your degree comes first and does not ask for good standing. The colegio asks for it afterwards, with your homologation certificate.

Under Ley 2/1974, article 3.2, joining the colegio is an essential requirement where a law requires it. Each provincial colegio sets its own document list. For homologation of a regulated profession, Spanish B2 is also required, except for nationals of countries where Spanish is an official language. Recruiters and hospital HR teams handling several hires can use our relocation and HR sworn translation service.

Good standing certificate for the Colegio de Enfermería

The Colegio de Enfermería de Ceuta asks for a certificate from the authority of origin stating you are not disqualified. Its maximum validity is three months. You also bring the homologation certificate. The full route is on our nurse homologation Spain translation page. Filipino nurses need a PRC COGS translation into Spanish: see Philippine nurse documents sworn translation for Spain.

Good standing certificate for the Colegio de Médicos

Doctors register with their provincial Colegio de Médicos, which sets its own list. The GMC sends its certificate only to the other regulator, valid for 3 months, in about 10 working days. Ask the colegio whether it also needs a Spanish translation. Your medical degree goes through degree homologation Spain translation first.

How long is a good standing certificate valid?

A good standing certificate is usually valid for three months from issue. The NMC and GMC set 3 months. The EU Directive 2005/36 says such documents must not be more than three months old when submitted. The Ceuta nursing colegio also sets three months.

The rule comes from Directive 2005/36, article 50(1). Request the certificate when your homologation decision is close, then order the translation straight away.

What if my regulator sends the certificate directly to Spain?

If your regulator sends the certificate directly to the Spanish colegio, you may never hold a copy to translate. The UK NMC emails the overseas authority, which downloads it securely. The GMC sends its certificate only to the other regulator. Ask the colegio how it handles English certificates.

Practice varies between colegios, so check with yours. Some may read the English version, while others may ask you for a sworn translation. If yours asks, request a copy from the colegio or regulator and send it to us. We translate from that copy. Either way, your colegio will still need your degree and transcript in Spanish, so order the colegio set in one go.

What should I send for a good standing certificate translation?

Send a clear scan or photo of every page of your good standing certificate. Include any apostille and your passport photo page. Tell us which colegio will receive it and your deadline. Originals are never needed, and we check that your name matches your passport.

Certificates in English go through our English to Spanish sworn translation service. If the colegio asks for an apostille, get it first. Our apostille and sworn translation page explains both steps. The order is explained in apostille before sworn translation.

Why do colegios return a translated good standing certificate?

What we check before the sworn translator applies the seal:

  • Expired before submission. We compare the issue date with your colegio deadline.
  • Apostille added later. We translate once the apostille is on.
  • Conditions left out. Any restriction or note on your registration is translated in full.
  • A translator nobody checked. Your quote names the translator, so you can look them up in the official MAEC search (Buscador-STIJ).

Can a colegio rely on a translator I found online?

Yes. Whether your certificate comes from Kerala or the PRC, it is handled by a Traductor-Intérprete Jurado appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Each page carries the translator's official seal and signature, which the colegio or you can check on the official MAEC list. If the colegio rejects the translation on formal grounds, it is redone free and prioritised.

Frequently asked questions

Where do nurses get a good standing certificate?

From the body that licenses them. UK nurses request a CCPS through NMC Online. Filipino nurses apply at a PRC Regional Office with a valid ID. In India, ask your state nursing council; Kerala's council offers one.

Is a good conduct certificate the same thing?

No. A certificate of good conduct usually means a police certificate, which shows your criminal record. A good standing certificate shows your professional registration. For the police document, see police clearance certificate sworn translation.

Can I get my good standing certificate translated online for Spain?

Yes. Upload a scan of the certificate and any apostille. You receive a digitally signed PDF, with paper by courier if a colegio insists.

Do I need a good standing certificate for degree homologation?

No. The Ministry's homologation file asks for your identity document, degree and academic certificate. The good standing certificate comes later, when you join the colegio.

How do I order a sworn translation of my good standing certificate?

Upload a scan of your good standing certificate, any apostille and your passport, with the colegio and your deadline. We look at the issue date and your name first. Your quote then shows a fixed price and delivery date.
