Which digital nomad visa documents need translating?
For Spain's digital nomad visa (teletrabajo de carácter internacional), foreign public documents need an apostille or legalisation and a sworn translation. The UGE names a "traductor intérprete jurado". Usually that means criminal record certificates, your degree and company registration documents. The CV may be a simple translation.
Translation also covers the proof behind the visa. Your contracts must show at least 3 months' relationship with your employer or clients, and your company at least 1 year of activity. Our guide to Spain digital nomad visa requirements sets out the full eligibility rules. This page is one of our sworn translation services by procedure.
Spain remote work visa: documents to send us
- Criminal record certificates: police certificate
- Degree, if you qualify by degree: degree certificate
- Bank statements and payslips, where asked: bank statements
- Medical certificate, if your consulate's checklist lists one: medical certificate
- Marriage and birth certificates for family joining you: marriage certificate, birth certificate
- The apostille on each public document: translating the apostille too
How many years of criminal records does a digital nomad need?
You must have no criminal record in your countries of residence for the last 5 years. The UGE asks for certificates covering the last 2 years plus a sworn declaration covering 5 years. Some consulates, such as Houston, ask for certificates for all 5 years.

Do English contracts and payslips need a sworn translation?
It depends on the office. Contracts and payslips are private documents. The UGE requires a sworn translation of foreign public documents, so check its list before submitting private ones. Some consulates go further: Mumbai's digital nomad checklist asks for all English documents to be translated by a traductor jurado.
When asked, we translate every page you file, including stamps. Contracts are priced at €0.12 per word, with a €49 minimum.
Should I apply from abroad or from inside Spain?
Both routes exist. From abroad, you apply for a visa at a Spanish consulate, valid for up to 1 year. From inside Spain, you apply to the UGE for a residence authorisation of up to 3 years. Each route publishes its own document list, and translation needs follow it.
| Route | Where you file | Length | Translation note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa | Spanish consulate abroad | Up to 1 year | Follow your consulate's checklist |
| Residence authorisation | UGE, from inside Spain | Up to 3 years | Public documents sworn-translated; CV may be a simple translation |

How much income must the translated documents show?
The digital nomad visa requires income of 200% of Spain's minimum wage (SMI) for the applicant. The 2026 SMI is €1,221 × 14 payments. The Consulate in Houston, for example, lists €2,442 a month for the applicant, €916 for the first family member and €305 for each further one. Check the current figures on your consulate's checklist.
| Who | Share of SMI | 2026 monthly figure (Houston) |
|---|---|---|
| Applicant | 200% | €2,442 |
| First family member | +75% | €916 |
| Each further member | +25% | €305 |
We translate every amount exactly as written, in its original currency. A spouse or child joining you also needs a marriage or birth certificate, apostilled and sworn-translated.
Which official translation does the UGE or a consulate accept for a digital nomad visa?
In Spain, when an office asks for an official or 'certified' translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. The UGE asks for public documents to be translated by a sworn translator. It is the translation Spanish consulates and the UGE accept.
A certified translation made outside Spain, for example by a UK or US translator, is not a sworn translation, and most Spanish offices won't accept it.
- Order matters. Apostille first, then translate both together: apostille before or after translation.
- Digital is valid. Since 8 March 2025, a qualified electronic signature makes the PDF legally valid: can a sworn translation be digital.

When should I order translations for a digital nomad application?
Work back from your consulate appointment or UGE filing date. Translate your degree first, once apostilled. Order criminal record certificates and recent payslips last, as validity is set by each office, commonly 3 to 6 months. Certificates and degrees take 24–48 hours.
Deadline close? Put the date on the form and we plan delivery from it.
What do we check before your digital nomad documents are sealed?
Before the seal goes on, we check each document against your consulate's checklist or the UGE list. We confirm each apostille is present, names match your passport, and every page and stamp is translated. You approve a draft of names, dates, amounts and company names before the translator signs.
If an office rejects a translation on formal grounds, we redo it free and prioritised; see how a free re-issue works.

Frequently asked questions
Do company registration documents need an apostille?
Usually, yes, if a public registry issued them. Foreign public documents need an apostille or legalisation and a sworn translation for the UGE. Check your consulate's checklist or the UGE list first.
Can I translate only part of a long contract?
It depends on what the office asks for. A sworn translation certifies a faithful and complete translation of what it covers. Ask the office first, then send only the pages it requires.
Does the UGE accept documents in English?
No, not for public documents. The UGE asks for a sworn translation of foreign public documents; the CV may be a simple translation. Check the current UGE list before submitting anything untranslated.
Can I get my documents translated online from the USA for a Spain digital nomad visa?
Yes. We work from scans of your apostilled documents, including the FBI check with its federal apostille. You receive a digitally signed PDF.
How do I send my digital nomad visa documents for a quote?
Scan every page, including each apostille, and upload them with your route and appointment or filing date. Originals are never needed. You receive a fixed total and delivery date before you pay. Translation starts once you approve the quote.
