Your route in three steps: 1. Official English version, attested by Nepal's Department of Consular Services → 2. Legalisation via the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi (we confirm the current steps with you) → 3. Sworn translation into Spanish
We are not affiliated with Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi or BLS.
How are Nepali documents legalised for Spain?
Nepal is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so Nepali papers are legalised rather than apostilled. The Department of Consular Services in Kathmandu attests them first. A Spanish legalisation step follows. The Spanish Embassy in New Delhi covers Nepal, so ask it for the current route before starting.
The one fact that matters: the official register of August 2026 lists no Nepali sworn translator in Spain. Where an official English version exists, we quote from it. The office that receives your file decides whether that is enough.
The HCCH status table does not list Nepal. The New Delhi embassy states that it also acts for Nepal, Bhutan, the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Last checked: 1 October 2026.
| Stage | Who handles it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Issue | Nepal Police, your municipality or ward, or your university | Ask whether an English version exists |
| English version | The concerned government authority, sealed and signed | Needed for Nepali-language documents |
| Attestation | Department of Consular Services, Kathmandu | Requests can be made online through NEATS |
| Spanish step | Route set by the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi | Confirm it by email before sending anything |
| Translation | MAEC-appointed sworn translator | Every stamp is translated with the text |
Translation comes last because each stamp must already be on the page. Apostille before or after translation explains the reasoning; legalisation follows the same order.
Can the Kathmandu consulate still legalise Nepali documents for Spain?
No, according to press reports. Onlinekhabar reported on 26 April 2026 that since 24 April 2026 the Spanish consulate in Kathmandu no longer legalises Nepali documents. It said legalisation now goes through the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi. Confirm the current route with the embassy before sending anything.
Guides that send documents to the honorary consul may be out of date. Indian applicants use the same embassy, covered on our Indian documents sworn translation for Spain page.
What did the New Delhi notice of 20 April 2026 say?
The embassy notice of 20 April 2026 covers one case only. It concerns police clearance certificates of applicants in Spain's 2026 extraordinary regularisation. They need MOFA Nepal attestation first, then in-person submission in New Delhi.
The notice gives a fee of INR 799 per legalisation and a processing time of ten to fifteen business days. Documents return through the honorary consulate in Kathmandu (for return only; the legalisation itself is done in New Delhi). It says nothing about other Nepali documents. For Nepal documents and the Spain embassy in Delhi, see our guide to Spanish embassy translation in India.
Living in Spain? Preparing Nepali documents from here
Most Nepali applicants who need these translations already live in Spain. You can usually start without travelling, but the legalisation route is not settled, so check each step with the official source. Nepal's embassy in Madrid explains how Nepali documents are validated (Nepal Embassy, Madrid).
| Step | Option while you live in Spain | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Police report | Apply through the Online Police Clearance Registration System | Whether fingerprints or collection need someone in Nepal |
| English version and MOFA attestation | A relative or authorised person in Kathmandu; NEATS online requests | The current NEATS steps with the Department of Consular Services |
| Spanish legalisation | Spanish Embassy in New Delhi | Email the embassy for the current route before sending anything |
| Translation | Send us scans from Spain | Every page and every stamp |
Hoja 61 also lists a translation made by your country's embassy or consulate in Spain, legalised afterwards. Ask the Embassy of Nepal in Madrid whether it offers this. Applied in the 2026 regularisation? Permits last one year, so renewals fall due from 2027; see the 2026 regularisation and its renewals. For other residence files, see Extranjería sworn translation. Which Nepali documents need translation for Spain?
A typical Nepali file holds a police report and a birth registration certificate. Couples add a marriage registration certificate, and students or workers add degrees. Every document is attested and legalised first. The sworn Spanish translation, by a MAEC-appointed translator, usually starts from the official English version.
| Nepali document | Before translation | Translation page |
|---|---|---|
| Police Clearance Certificate (police report) | Nepal Police online, MOFA attestation, Spanish legalisation | Police clearance certificate sworn translation |
| Birth registration certificate | Local registrar, English version, attestation, legalisation | Birth certificate sworn translation |
| Marriage registration certificate | Local registrar, English version, attestation, legalisation | Marriage certificate sworn translation |
| University degree and transcript | University, attestation, legalisation | Degree certificate sworn translation |
The English versions are handled through our English to Spanish sworn translation service. Languages without a Spanish sworn translator are covered on sworn translation into Spanish from any language.
Nepal police report for Spain: apostille or legalisation?
Legalisation. The Nepal police report for Spain is requested online through Nepal Police. MOFA attestation and the Spanish step follow, then the Nepal police report translation into Spanish. Validity is set by each office, commonly 3 to 6 months, so apply close to your appointment.
Nepal birth certificate for Spain: apostille or legalisation?
Also legalisation. Birth registration certificates usually come from the local registrar, such as a municipality or ward office. Some are in Nepali, some in English and some in both. A Nepali-only certificate first needs an English translation sealed by the concerned government authority.

What delays Nepali files for Spain most often?
Usually the stamps, rarely the translation:
- Early translation. A translation made before the last stamp has to be redone.
- Old advice. Guidance about the Kathmandu consulate may no longer apply. Check with New Delhi.
- Unsealed English versions. Nepal's embassy in Madrid asks for English translations "duly sealed and signed" by government authorities.
- Names. We check every name against your passport and add a translator's note where spellings differ.
- Requerimientos. A correction notice from Extranjería leaves 10 working days (días hábiles) under Ley 39/2015, art. 68. See requerimiento Extranjería translation.
How much does a sworn translation of Nepali documents cost in rupees?
Your total is quoted in euros after the route check. It depends on the document, the number of pages and the stamps. The delivery date is confirmed in the same quote, because it depends on the route and translator. You pay only after accepting. Prices are in euros; your card or bank converts from Nepali rupees at its own rate.
| Item | Starting price | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|
| Police report or birth registration certificate | from €29 | Usually 24–48 hours from the official English version |
| Marriage registration certificate | from €29 | Usually 24–48 hours from the official English version |
| Degree certificate | from €29 | Usually 24–48 hours from the official English version |
| Document translated from Nepali | from €49 | Date confirmed in your quote |
| Family set | from €29 per certificate | Quoted per family |
These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it.
As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price.
Payment methods: cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, bank transfer (SEPA and international), Apple Pay and Google Pay. Prices include VAT where it applies. For other documents, see how much a sworn translation costs.
Your questions before paying for a Nepali file
A Nepali police report passes through Kathmandu and New Delhi before it reaches us, so a rejection costs weeks. Check these four points first.
- Is the translator real? We work only with sworn translators appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Each one signs with their own official seal, which you can check in the official MAEC search (Buscador-STIJ); guide: how to verify a Spanish sworn translator.
- What if the office rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds. See our re-issue terms.
- Is my data safe? Files are deleted within 7 days of delivery, as set out in our privacy policy.
- Police report about to expire? See urgent sworn translation.

Frequently asked questions
Does Nepal require an English translation first?
Yes, for documents written in Nepali. Nepal's embassy in Madrid says they need an English translation sealed and signed by the concerned government authority. The Department of Consular Services then attests the document. Documents already issued in English skip that step.
Can I use Nepal's online attestation system?
Yes. Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs runs the Nepal e-Attestation System (NEATS), live since 17 August 2026, according to the Kathmandu Post. It handles online requests, tracking, fees and appointments. Check the official portal address with the Department of Consular Services.
Will Spain accept a Spanish translation made from the English version?
It depends on the office, so ask before ordering. We quote from the official English version where one exists. Hoja informativa 61 also lists a translation by Nepal's embassy or consulate in Spain, legalised afterwards.
Is a translation certified in Nepal enough for Spain?
Usually not. In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. A translation certified in Nepal is not one of the routes Hoja 61 lists.
How do I send my Nepali documents for a sworn translation quote?
Send scans of every page: the original, the English version, the attestation and any Spanish stamp. Add the procedure, the office and your deadline. We check the route and the names, then quote. The quote shows the total before you pay.
