The doctor's statement, licence number, stamps and apostille are all translated, then signed and sealed.

Living in Spain: who needs the medical certificate when family joins you?
When a resident in Spain brings family over, the medical certificate belongs to the relative abroad, not to the resident. The resident applies on form EX-02. Once approved, the relative has 2 months from notification to apply for the visa, with a medical certificate issued under the International Health Regulations 2005.
- The relative's doctor issues it in their home country, and it is apostilled where the consulate asks.
- Timing matters. The New Delhi embassy accepts medical certificates for 6 months; many other consulates use 3 months.
- We translate it from a scan you forward from Spain. See family reunification Spain sworn translation.
Residence procedures inside Spain, such as Extranjería renewals, do not usually ask for this certificate. Browse every document we translate for the ones they do ask for.
What must a medical (health) certificate for a Spain visa say?
A medical certificate for a Spain visa application must state that you have no disease with serious public health consequences. The reference is the International Health Regulations 2005. Consulate models show a doctor's signature on letterhead, with a licence number and the medical centre's stamp. Wording varies by consulate.
The Washington consulate's bilingual model gives the standard Spanish wording:
"no padece ninguna de las enfermedades que pueden tener repercusiones de salud pública graves de conformidad con lo dispuesto en el Reglamento Sanitario Internacional de 2005"

How does a sworn Spanish translation of a medical certificate look?
A sworn Spanish translation of a medical certificate mirrors the original. The doctor's statement, name, licence number, date, signature and stamp all appear in Spanish, followed by the apostille. The MAEC-appointed sworn translator adds a certification, seal, signature and MAEC number.
In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. It is the route Spanish offices list as needing no further legalisation.
How much does a medical certificate sworn translation cost?
A medical certificate sworn translation costs from €29, usually one page plus the apostille. You agree one fixed total before you pay. Standard delivery is 24–48 hours. As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price.
| Service | What it covers | Price | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Medical certificate plus apostille or legalisation | From €29 | 24–48 hours |
| Express | Same document | +30% for 24-hour delivery; +60% same day (min €25 extra) | 24 hours, or same day if paid by 12:00 noon (Spanish time) on a working day |
| Visa set | Medical certificate plus police clearance certificate | From €58 (2 × €29) | 2–3 working days |
These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it.
Sworn translators set their fees freely. Other documents are on the full price table, or you can get a fixed quote for your medical certificate now.
Visa appointment in less than 24 hours?
Standard delivery is 24–48 hours. Same-day delivery is possible if you order and pay by 12:00 noon Spanish time on a working day. If your appointment is sooner, enter the date when you upload, and we confirm before you pay whether it can be met. Faster options are on our urgent sworn translation page.
Can I get a bilingual medical certificate instead of a translation?
Sometimes. The Washington consulate publishes a bilingual English and Spanish model, and that model does not mention a translation. If your consulate offers such a template, your doctor can complete it. Other consulates ask for a translation: Mumbai wants an official Spanish translation, and Miami a sworn one.
A bilingual model is the medical certificate template for a Spanish visa that some missions publish. Check your own consulate's checklist before relying on a bilingual medical certificate for a Spain visa. If it is not accepted, we translate the certificate you already have. Using a bilingual model? Your police certificate usually still needs a police clearance certificate sworn translation.
Does the medical certificate need an apostille?
Requirements vary by consulate: many require an apostille, and validity is usually 3 months (sometimes 6). London asks for an apostille on certificates issued outside the EU. São Paulo and Mumbai ask for an apostille too. Get the apostille first, then order the translation.
We translate the apostille together with the certificate, as Spanish offices expect. Why the order matters: apostille before sworn translation. For help with both steps, see apostille and sworn translation.
How long is a medical certificate valid for Spain?
A medical certificate for Spain is usually valid for 3 months, sometimes 6, counted from its issue date. London, São Paulo, Miami and BLS Philippines use 3 months. Mumbai work visas and New Delhi family reunification files allow 6 months. Plan the doctor's visit around your appointment.
Your medical certificate by country
| Country | What consulates ask for | Validity |
|---|---|---|
| India | Mumbai: apostilled, with an official Spanish translation | 6 months |
| Philippines | BLS: English documents translated by a traductor jurado | 3 months |
| UK | London: UK or Spanish certificate only, apostilled | Issued within 3 months |
| USA | Washington: bilingual model; Miami: sworn translation | Miami: 3 months |
| Nigeria | If asked, legalisation: MFA Abuja, then the Spanish Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos, depending on your state | Check your checklist |

What should I send with my medical certificate?
Send a clear scan or photo of the signed medical certificate, the apostille or legalisation, and your passport photo page. Tell us your visa type and appointment date. We check that your name matches the passport. Originals are never needed, and paper is posted only if an office insists.
- Every page, front and back. Stamps can be on the back.
- The apostille or legalisation. It is translated with the certificate.
- Your passport. If the spelling differs, the translator keeps the certificate's wording and adds a translator's note.
Certificates in English go through our English to Spanish sworn translation service.
Which Spain visas ask for a medical certificate?
Spain asks for a medical certificate for several long-stay national visas. The main cases are the student, work, non-lucrative and family reunification visas. In each, a doctor signs the certificate, it is apostilled where required, and then it is sworn-translated into Spanish.
Medical certificate sworn translation for Spain student visa
For a medical certificate for a Spain student visa, the long-stay rules cite the International Health Regulations 2005. The Miami consulate says it is valid for 3 months. See Spain student visa sworn translation.
Medical certificate sworn translation for Spain work visa
The worker presents the medical certificate at the visa stage, within one month of the employer's authorisation being notified. Mumbai asks for it apostilled, valid 6 months, with an official Spanish translation. See Spain work visa sworn translation.
Medical certificate sworn translation for non lucrative visa
London accepts only UK or Spanish certificates, issued within the 3 months before applying. It must be apostilled if issued outside the EU, with a sworn translation if not in Spanish. See non-lucrative visa Spain sworn translation.
Family reunification is covered in the first section, because the resident in Spain starts it.
Other visa documents have their own pages. See birth certificate sworn translation into Spanish and bank statement sworn translation. For the whole file, see sworn translation for a Spain visa.
What makes a consulate return a translated medical certificate?
Each medical certificate is checked against these points before the seal is applied:
- Expired before the appointment. We compare the issue date with your appointment date.
- Apostille added after translation. We translate once the apostille is on.
- Wording missing. A one-line "fit and healthy" note from a family doctor is a typical example. We flag it if the doctor's text does not cover the International Health Regulations 2005.
- Unverified translator. Match the seal on each page against the official MAEC search (Buscador-STIJ).

You can check the translator before you pay anything, even with a visa appointment days away. Every translator we work with is a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their official seal on each page can be matched on the MAEC list. If a consulate rejects the translation on formal grounds, we redo it free. Health data is deleted within 7 days of delivery.
- Is the translator real? Each translator we use is MAEC-appointed and works with their own official seal. Here is how to verify a Spanish sworn translator.

Frequently asked questions
Can any doctor sign the medical certificate?
It depends on the consulate. London accepts only UK or Spanish certificates. Bilingual models expect letterhead, the doctor's signature, licence number and the medical centre's stamp.
Do you translate handwritten medical certificates?
Yes, in most cases. The translator reproduces exactly what is written. If a word is illegible on the original, the translator marks it as illegible; a typed certificate from your doctor avoids this.
Is a health certificate for a Spain visa the same as a medical certificate?
Yes. Consulate checklists call it a medical certificate (certificado médico), and some people call it a health certificate. It is the same doctor's statement, translated the same way.
Can I get my medical certificate translated online before my visa appointment?
Yes. Upload a scan of the certificate and apostille. You receive a digitally signed PDF, with paper by courier if an office insists.
How do I order a sworn translation of my medical certificate?
Upload a scan of your signed medical certificate and its apostille, with your visa type and appointment date. We check the dates, wording and your name. You then see a fixed price and delivery date before you pay anything.
