We work with MAEC-appointed sworn translators. We are not affiliated with any Spanish or Chinese authority or notary office.

Chinese sworn translators are few, so your quote also states an exact delivery date in writing before you pay.

In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. A certified translation made outside Spain, for example by a Chinese notary office, is not a sworn translation. Most Spanish offices won't accept it. Under Real Decreto 724/2020, a translation sealed by a MAEC-appointed translator has official status without further legalisation. Chinese is one of all the languages we translate into Spanish.

How are Chinese names transliterated in a Spanish translation?

Chinese names are written in Hanyu Pinyin, the official romanisation under China's 2001 Language Law (article 18). The surname comes first and the given name follows as one word, under standard GB/T 28039-2011. The sworn translator copies the spelling in your passport exactly, without tone marks.

The standard says "姓在前,名在后" (surname first, given name after) and allows passport names in capitals (GB/T 28039-2011). The translation labels "apellido" and "nombre" clearly.

Original (Chinese) Sworn translation (Spanish)
姓名:王小明 Nombre y apellido: WANG XIAOMING (apellido: WANG; nombre: XIAOMING)
父亲:王建国 Padre: WANG JIANGUO
Passport: WANG XIAOMING N. del T.: transcripción conforme al pasaporte del titular.

Passports from Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan may spell names differently. We follow your passport, whatever system it uses. Send the photo page with your documents.

Simplified or traditional Chinese: does it matter?

Not for validity. Both scripts are translated into the same official Spanish. Mainland documents use simplified characters, the national standard under the Language Law. Documents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan often use traditional characters. The translator needs to know which script and which issuing authority it is.

The Language Law (articles 2, 3 and 17) limits traditional characters on the mainland to cases such as heritage and calligraphy. Tell us the script when you upload, and the quote names a translator who reads it.

Several Chinese administrative terms have no Spanish counterpart. The household register (hukou, 户口), the household register booklet (户口簿) and kinship notarial certificates (亲属关系公证书) are the usual examples. The sworn translator gives a descriptive Spanish rendering and keeps the pinyin term in brackets, so nothing is lost.

  • Hukou (户口). Translated descriptively, for example "registro de domicilio familiar (hukou)", never as "padrón".
  • Notarial certificate (公证书). The notary certifies a fact or a copy; it is not a Spanish escritura.
  • Official seals (公章). Red seals carry the issuing body's name; each is described and translated where it appears.
  • Two education documents. 毕业证书 (graduation certificate) and 学位证书 (degree certificate) are rendered as two distinct titles.

We translate; we do not advise on Chinese or Spanish law.

Which Chinese documents does Spain ask for?

Spanish offices mostly want birth, kinship and marriage records, a no-criminal-record certificate and degrees. On the mainland these usually arrive as notarial certificates with an apostille. The translator then renders the Chinese text, every red seal and the apostille into Spanish, as one sealed document.

They support family reunification sworn translation, Spanish nationality sworn translation and arraigo sworn translation files. For the no-criminal-record certificate (无犯罪记录证明), see police clearance sworn translation into Spanish.

Chinese birth certificate translation to Spanish

A mainland birth fact usually appears in a notarial birth certificate (出生公证书). The translation covers the notarial wording, any attached copy and the apostille. How recent it must be depends on the office; nationality files accept an older birth certificate. Details: birth certificate sworn translation into Spanish and marriage certificate sworn translation into Spanish.

Chinese notarial certificate translation to Spanish

Many notarial certificates already carry a foreign-language version from the notary office. For a Chinese notarial certificate, Spanish translation by a MAEC sworn translator is the safe route. A notary-office translation is not one of the routes Hoja 61 lists. The translator works from the Chinese text, not the attached version. Route detail: Chinese documents sworn translation for Spain.

Chinese degree translation to Spanish

The graduation and degree certificates keep their official Chinese titles, rendered literally rather than as a Spanish equivalent. Homologation files add the academic record, which needs subjects plus hours or credits. See degree certificate sworn translation into Spanish; the procedure is on degree homologation sworn translation.

Do documents from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Singapore follow different routes?

Yes. Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao use the apostille, each through its own authority. Documents issued in Taiwan are notarised, then legalised by Spain's Consular Section. Singapore uses its own apostille. Our country pages explain each route; this page covers the language and the translation itself.

Mainland route, including how to order notarial certificates while you live in Spain: getting Chinese documents ready for Spain. Singapore route, including English certificates: Singapore documents sworn translation for Spain and English to Spanish sworn translation. Order of steps: apostille before sworn translation. Need both steps? Our apostille and sworn translation service handles them in one order.

How much does a Chinese to Spanish sworn translation cost, and how long does it take?

A Chinese to Spanish sworn translation is priced per document and length, from €49. A notarial certificate of 1–2 pages typically takes 3–4 working days. Files of 3–10 pages take 5–7 working days, and your quote fixes the exact date. Only about 9 Chinese sworn translators appear in the official MAEC register (August 2026). So allow more time than for English, where a certificate takes 24–48 hours.

Document in Chinese Turnaround Price
Notarial birth, kinship or marriage certificate Typically 3–4 working days from €49
No-criminal-record certificate Typically 3–4 working days from €49
Graduation and degree certificates Typically 3–4 working days from €49
Academic record 5–7 working days for 3–10 pages from €49

These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it.

As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price. To compare document types, see our fixed prices. Deadline next week? Ask about urgent sworn translation before your apostille arrives. Order early: the translator can start as soon as the apostille is on.

Ordering a Chinese translation: your doubts answered

Sending a hukou booklet or a 公证书 from Shanghai? Settle these four points before you pay.

  • Is the translator real? Every Chinese sworn translator we work with is MAEC-appointed, on the official register and works with their own official seal. Check that seal against the MAEC list with our guide to verifying a Spanish sworn translator.
  • What if the office rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds, such as a pinyin spelling that differs from your passport. Read what happens if a translation is rejected.
  • Is my data safe? Your hukou booklet and certificates are used only for your order and deleted within 7 days of delivery, as our privacy policy explains.
  • Cita at Extranjería soon? Tell us the date when you upload. We confirm in the quote whether a Chinese translator can meet it.

What a traducción jurada from Chinese looks like

Section by section, it mirrors your notarial certificate. Each red seal, signature and stamp is described in brackets where it sits. The translator's certification, signature and seal come at the end. A copy of the Chinese original is attached, with the seal and date on every page.

Sample: Chinese notarial birth certificate (出生公证书) and apostille, next to the Spanish version with red seals described, a pinyin spelling note and the sworn translator's seal
Sample: Chinese notarial birth certificate (出生公证书) and apostille, next to the Spanish version with red seals described, a pinyin spelling note and the sworn translator's seal. Personal data blurred. The certification follows RD 724/2020.

On the seal you find the translator's name, the language and a number. The official title is traductor-intérprete jurado de chino (often shortened to traductor jurado de chino). Look the translator up in the MAEC Buscador-STIJ.

Frequently asked questions

Can you translate documents from Taiwan and Hong Kong?

Yes. We translate documents in traditional characters from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Hong Kong and Macao documents need an apostille first. Documents issued in Taiwan are notarised, then legalised by Spain's Consular Section in Taipei.

Do my Chinese documents need translating if I already live in Spain?

Yes, if a Spanish office will read them. Extranjería, the Registro Civil and the nationality file all work in Spanish. A Chinese document needs its apostille (or, for Taiwan, legalisation) and then a sworn translation. Documents you only keep for yourself need nothing.

Can I order a Chinese translation from Shanghai while my appointment is in Madrid?

Yes. Scans of every page, including the notarial certificate and apostille, are all the translator needs. You receive the signed PDF by email wherever you are.

How do I order a sworn translation of my Chinese documents?

Scan each page: the notarial certificate, any attached copy and the apostille, plus your passport photo page. Originals are never needed. The quote lists the total and the delivery date. The translator starts only once you accept. You can get a fixed quote for your Chinese documents from clear scans.
