From Singapore to Spain in three steps: 1. Get the certificate from ICA, ROM, the SPF or your university → 2. Apostille from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) → 3. Sworn translation into Spanish

How do I apostille Singapore documents for Spain?
Singapore documents for Spain are apostilled by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL). Singapore joined the Apostille Convention on 16 September 2021. Since then SAL affixes apostilles for all documents, at S$10.70 including GST per document. A MAEC-appointed sworn translator then translates the document and its apostille.
The SAL apostille confirms "that the signature, stamp or seal is from a Singapore public official" (SAL legalisation FAQ). Spain applies the Convention too (HCCH status table). So a Singapore Academy of Law apostille for Spain needs no further embassy legalisation.
SAL has announced an e-Apostille, starting with ACRA Business Profiles and Business Certificates (SAL announcement). For other documents, ask SAL whether an e-Apostille is available yet.
The one fact that matters: English is an official language in Singapore, not in Spain. Spanish offices still need your English certificates in Spanish, and the apostille page goes with them.
| Step | Where | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Get the document | ICA, ROM or ROMM, SPF, university | New birth, death, marriage and police certificates are issued digitally |
| 2. Apostille | Singapore Academy of Law | S$10.70 per document, since 16 September 2021 |
| 3. Spanish translation | MAEC-appointed English sworn translator | Your PDF or scan is enough; 24–48 hours per certificate |
In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. It needs no legalisation inside Spain. For the reasoning behind the order, read apostille before or after translation. To combine both steps, see apostille and sworn translation.
Can I get Singapore certificates while living in Spain?
Often, yes. Since 2022 ICA issues birth and death certificates digitally. ROM has issued digital marriage certificates since 25 September 2023. The Certificate of Clearance has been digital-only since 6 January 2025. The SAL apostille is the step to plan, so check with SAL how to submit from Spain.
This matters when you renew a TIE or residence card, marry at a Spanish Registro Civil or register a child. It also matters when an Extranjería office sends a correction notice. Routes that work from Spain:
| Need | Route while you live in Spain | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Birth or death certificate | Digital ICA certificate; older paper certificates remain valid | Ask SAL how a digital certificate is apostilled |
| Marriage certificate | Digital certificate from ROM for marriages applied for on or after 25 September 2023 | Ask SAL or ROM about older paper certificates |
| Certificate of Clearance | Digital-only since 6 January 2025, for overseas-related use | Ask the SPF or your nearest Singapore mission which proof of need it accepts |
| Paper documents | A relative or representative in Singapore takes them to SAL | Ask SAL what authorisation a representative needs |
Once the apostille is on, get a fixed quote for your Singapore certificates. We translate the certificate and apostille together and deliver a signed PDF. Office steps in Spain: Extranjería sworn translation and Registro Civil sworn translation.

Do English-language Singapore documents need an official Spanish translation?
It depends on the stage, but plan for yes. The Embassy of Spain in Singapore asks non-lucrative applicants for "an official translation into Spanish" where applicable. Once you file anything in Spain, Extranjería accepts translations by a MAEC sworn translator or a Spanish consulate abroad. It also accepts one by Singapore's mission in Spain, followed by legalisation. English alone is not enough there.
The embassy's student visa page says two things. One line says documents in other languages must be translated "either to Spanish or English". Another says "Non-Spanish documents must be authenticated with the Apostille of The Hague and translated into Spanish". Follow your own checklist. Inside Spain, Hoja 61 sets the rule.

Where do Singapore files for Spain lose time?
Most delays happen before the translation:
- COC without proof of need. The SPF refuses it; attach your Spanish checklist.
- Translating before the SAL apostille. The apostille must be translated too.
- Records from home. Spanish procedures often want a criminal record certificate from each country you lived in during the last 5 years. Indian EP holders may also need a sworn translation of Indian documents for Spain. Mainland Chinese PRs follow the Chinese documents for Spain route.
- Names. We copy names exactly as in your passport, including the surname order on Chinese names.
- Correction notices. A requerimiento gives you 10 working days (días hábiles) to reply; see correction notice sworn translation.

Frequently asked questions
Can foreigners living in Singapore use this route?
Yes. The SPF issues the COC to non-citizens aged 16 or over with six months' continuous residence, work or study. SAL apostilles Singapore public documents whoever holds them. Records from your home country follow that country's own route.
Does Spain accept the digital COC?
It depends on the office, but the digital COC is the only version issued since 6 January 2025. Have it apostilled by SAL, then send us the file. We translate the certificate and apostille together; ask your office if it also wants a printout.
Can I get my Singapore documents translated online without flying to Spain?
Yes. Upload each certificate and its apostille as a PDF or scan. You receive the signed translation by email, and we can courier paper if an office wants it.
How do I send my Singapore documents for a sworn translation quote?
Upload your apostilled certificates as PDFs, scans or clear photos, including the SAL apostille page. Originals are never needed. Before you pay, you see one total in SGD or euros. A family or assignee set gets one quote.
