We work with MAEC-appointed sworn translators. We are not affiliated with any Spanish authority.
Ukrainian sworn translators are few, so your quote fixes the delivery date in writing before you pay.
In Spain, when an office asks for an official or "certified" translation, it means a sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. Real Decreto 724/2020 gives it official status, with no further legalisation inside Spain (BOE). Ukrainian is one of all the languages we translate into Spanish.
Which Ukrainian documents do people in Spain need translated?
Ukrainians in Spain usually need diplomas translated for homologation, and birth and marriage certificates for the Registro Civil, family files and, later, nationality. Criminal record extracts follow when a residence route asks for them. Each document needs a Ukrainian apostille first, then a sworn Spanish translation.
Spain had 353,009 Ukrainian nationals with residence documents on 30 June 2026. Of them, 262,782 held temporary protection (Ministry of Inclusion). The EU has extended temporary protection to 4 March 2028 (Council of the EU). Spain's Orden INT/96/2026 extended card validity to 4 March 2027 (BOE-A-2026-3712).
Temporary protection itself rarely needs a sworn translation. Translations usually come later, for homologation, marriage or nationality, as below.
Ukrainian diploma for homologation (traducción jurada de diploma ucraniano)
A diploma (диплом) and its supplement (додаток до диплома) need an apostille, then a translation. The Ministry needs subjects and hours or credits, which the supplement usually lists. If a document is written entirely in Ukrainian and English, the Ministry needs only one language translated (Ministry guidance). Details: degree certificate sworn translation into Spanish.
Ukrainian birth certificate translation to Spanish
The birth certificate (свідоцтво про народження) is used to marry in Spain, register family links and, later, apply for nationality. The 1984 Spain–USSR exemption does not cover Ukraine, so it needs an apostille. Ask your office how recent the certificate must be. More: birth certificate sworn translation into Spanish.
Ukrainian marriage certificate translation to Spanish
The marriage certificate (свідоцтво про шлюб) proves a family link for residence files and the Registro Civil. Apostille it first. More on this certificate: marriage certificate sworn translation into Spanish. An earlier marriage that ended needs its divorce document too: divorce decree sworn translation into Spanish.
A criminal record extract (витяг про несудимість) carries an apostille too. Validity is set by each office, commonly 3 to 6 months. See police clearance sworn translation into Spanish.
Which Spanish offices ask Ukrainians for sworn translations?
Four offices handle most Ukrainian files. The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities decides homologation. The Registro Civil handles marriages and births, the Ministry of Justice nationality, and Extranjería changes of residence route. Each one publishes its own document list.
- Degree homologation sworn translation: diploma and supplement, apostilled. Translations for homologation do not expire.
- Registro Civil sworn translation: birth certificate and a certificate of marital status to marry in Spain.
- Spanish nationality sworn translation: birth certificate and criminal record, apostilled and translated.
- Extranjería sworn translation: when moving to another residence route, follow that procedure's Hoja.
Does a Ukrainian driving licence need a sworn translation in Spain?
No. The DGT states that for exchanging a Ukrainian licence, "No se exigirá la presentación de su traducción jurada" (DGT). For temporary-protection holders, the licence is valid while protection lasts. You do not need to order one.
How are Ukrainian documents apostilled for Spain?
Ukraine has applied the Apostille Convention since 22 December 2003. The Ministry of Justice apostilles civil-status, court and notarial documents and offers an electronic apostille. Education documents go to the Ministry of Education, which has not introduced an e-apostille yet, according to the HCCH.
The Ministry of Justice register is online at apostille.minjust.gov.ua. The apostille page is translated in the same document as the certificate. Why it comes first: apostille before sworn translation. Both in one order: apostille and sworn translation.
Can you translate Ukrainian documents issued online?
Yes, we translate what you file. Since 11 September 2025, Diia lets you order a criminal record extract with an apostille. It arrives on paper within about 30 days, plus up to 5 days for the apostille (Ukrinform). Ask your Spanish office before relying on an online-only version.
Until your office confirms it accepts an electronic extract, the paper extract with apostille is the safer choice.
Why should a Ukrainian name follow the passport, not a Russian spelling?
Your translation must match your passport, NIE and TIE. Ukrainian passports usually follow Ukraine's own transliteration, so Олександр appears as Oleksandr rather than a Russian-based Aleksandr. A different spelling can look like a different person. The sworn translator keeps the passport spelling and adds a note where a document differs.
| Original (Ukrainian) | Sworn translation (Spanish) |
|---|---|
| Прізвище: Шевченко · Ім'я: Олександр · По батькові: Петрович | Apellido: SHEVCHENKO · Nombre: OLEKSANDR · Patronímico: PETROVYCH |
| Passport: SHEVCHENKO OLEKSANDR | N. del T.: en el pasaporte del titular figura «SHEVCHENKO OLEKSANDR». |
| Soviet-era certificate in Russian: Александр | N. del T.: grafía del pasaporte: «OLEKSANDR». |
The patronymic (по батькові) is rendered as written and labelled, never turned into a surname. This is translator practice, not a written Spanish rule. We confirm name and place spellings with you in the draft.
Who translates Ukrainian into Spanish, and how many sworn translators are there?
About 4 Ukrainian sworn translators appear in Spain's official register as of August 2026. With so few, dates depend on their availability. A document written entirely in Russian can go to one of about 33 Russian sworn translators. Mixed-language documents need careful handling, so tell us first.
Some older Ukrainian certificates are written in Russian. Those can be quoted on our Russian to Spanish sworn translation page. Other languages in the same file: see sworn translation into Spanish from less common languages.

Ukrainian documents: what to know before you pay
Sending a диплом for homologation or a свідоцтво to the Registro Civil? These four answers come before payment.
- Is the translator real? Our Ukrainian sworn translators are MAEC-appointed, on the official register and sign digital work with a qualified electronic signature. Check that signature or seal on the official list with our guide to verifying a Spanish sworn translator.
- What if the Ministry or registry rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds, such as a transliteration that differs from your passport. See our re-issue policy.
- Is my data safe? Your diploma and certificates are used only for your order and deleted within 7 days of delivery, as our privacy policy explains.
- Homologation or marriage date close? Give us the date when you upload. The quote confirms whether a Ukrainian translator can meet it.

What does an official Ukrainian to Spanish translation look like?
The Spanish version keeps the order of the Ukrainian certificate, field by field. Stamps and signatures are described in brackets where they appear, and the apostille follows on its own page. It ends with the translator's certification, signature and seal, plus a sealed copy of the original.
The translator whose seal is on your translation can be checked under "ucraniano" in the MAEC Buscador-STIJ.
Frequently asked questions
Do you translate documents with both Ukrainian and Russian?
Yes, but tell us first. The translation must cover every part of the document. A Russian sworn translator handles text that is entirely in Russian. Where both languages appear, we confirm which translator can certify the whole document before quoting. If none can, we tell you before you pay anything.
How long does a Ukrainian sworn translation take?
A Ukrainian certificate of 1–2 pages typically takes 3–4 working days. A diploma with its додаток of 3–10 pages takes 5–7. Only about 4 Ukrainian sworn translators are registered with MAEC, so we confirm availability first. Documents written entirely in Russian can often go faster.
Do I need a translation to apply for temporary protection?
Usually not. We do not advise on that application, so ask the office handling your file. Sworn translations are usually needed later, for homologation, marriage or nationality. The EU has extended temporary protection to 4 March 2028.
How do I order a sworn translation of my Ukrainian documents?
Upload clear scans of each page with the apostille, plus your passport photo page for the spelling check. Originals are never needed. Your quote gives the total and the delivery date. Nothing is charged before you accept. You can get a fixed quote for your Ukrainian documents from clear scans.
