We arrange sworn translations into Spanish by MAEC-appointed translators, accepted by Extranjería, the Registro Civil and Spanish consulates. A certificate takes 24–48 hours, from €29 (approx. ₹3,150) per certificate. These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it. Send scans online for a fixed quote. This guide compares both routes.

Want one translation that works for your visa and later in Spain? A MAEC-appointed sworn translator translates your apostilled Indian documents into Spanish. You send scans online from anywhere in India. See our Indian documents sworn translation for Spain service.

Can I get a sworn Spanish translation in India? (¿Se pueden hacer traducciones juradas en India?)
Not from an Indian office. The Embassy of Spain in New Delhi states: "Official Sworn Translations cannot be done in India". Only translators appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) make sworn translations. You can still order one online from India.
MAEC's Office of Language Interpretation (OIL) appoints each sworn translator (traductor jurado) under Real Decreto 724/2020. Their translations are official and valid in Spain without further legalisation. In Spain, a "certified translation" means exactly this: a translation certified by a MAEC-appointed sworn translator.
Spanish law doesn't require sworn translators to live in Spain. The translator works from your scans or phone photos, apostille pages included, so your originals stay with you. You do not need a Spanish translator in Delhi for your visa: the whole order runs online.
The official register lists no sworn translators for Hindi or Punjabi. Most Indian certificates are issued in English, so we use English to Spanish sworn translation. For a document only in a regional language, see sworn translation into Spanish from other languages.
What is the Spanish embassy's translation seal in India?
It is a stamp on a translation you supply. For visa files only, the New Delhi embassy can seal an unofficial English–Spanish translation. Its legalisation procedure calls it a "seal of approval of an unofficial translation English – Spanish, through prior appointment".
Three points matter:
- You supply the translation. The embassy seals it; it does not translate for you.
- It is for visa files only.
- It needs an appointment booked by email.
Common mistake: thinking the embassy translates because its fee list has a translation code. Its page says sworn translations cannot be done in India.
How do I request the embassy seal?
Email the embassy at emb.nuevadelhi.nac@maec.es to ask for an appointment. Attach the documentation in English and its translation in Spanish, as the embassy's procedure asks. The embassy then gives you a time to come in. Remember that the seal is for visa files only, and fee 24c applies per sheet.
Follow these steps:
- Finish the apostille first. State attestation, then the MEA apostille. See apostille and sworn translation.
- Get a Spanish translation made, including the apostille.
- Email the embassy with the English documents and the Spanish translation attached.
- Attend the appointment with what the embassy asks for in its reply.
- Pay fee 24c, INR 3,431 per sheet.
How much does the embassy seal cost per page?
The New Delhi embassy charges fee code 24c, "La compulsa y otorgamiento por hoja 30 líneas", at INR 3,431 per sheet. The fee comes from the embassy's fee list valid from 1 January 2026. You also pay for the Spanish translation itself, because the embassy only seals it.
So the real cost has two parts: the unofficial translation, plus INR 3,431 for each sheet the embassy seals. A certificate with an apostille may fill more than one sheet.
Worked example: three one-sheet certificates through the seal cost your translation plus INR 10,293 in fees. The same three as sworn translations start from €87 (approx. ₹9,400) with us. Rupee figures are approx., at €1 ≈ ₹108, October 2026; we update rupee prices monthly. Payment is taken in euros.
As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page. That is roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price. Our own price starts from €29 (approx. ₹3,150) per certificate. These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it. For euro prices, see our sworn translation prices.
Embassy seal or sworn translation: which is better?
For a visa file alone, either can work if your mission accepts it. For anything after the visa, choose a sworn translation. It is official in Spain, so one translation serves your visa and your later procedures. The seal is offered only for visa files.
Embassy seal vs sworn translation for Indian applicants
| Point | New Delhi embassy seal | Sworn translation (traducción jurada) |
|---|---|---|
| Who makes the translation | You arrange it; the embassy seals it | A MAEC-appointed sworn translator |
| Where it is offered for | Visa files at the New Delhi embassy | Consulates and offices inside Spain |
| Cost | Your translation + INR 3,431 per sheet | From €29 (approx. ₹3,150) per certificate; written quotation before work starts |
| Appointment needed | Yes, by email | No; order online |
| Delivery | Ask the embassy | Digitally signed PDF; paper by courier if needed |
| Reuse in Spain | Not offered for procedures in Spain | Yes, official in Spain |
Example: Priya has lived in Madrid for a year. Her visa-stage translations carried the embassy seal, so for her TIE renewal she now needs sworn translations of the same certificates. One sworn translation at the visa stage would have avoided paying twice.
Example: Arjun's sworn degree translation covers both his Spain student visa from India and his degree homologation in Spain. The seal covers only the visa.

What happens when I use my documents inside Spain?
Procedures inside Spain use different rules from the embassy seal. Extranjería, nationality, degree homologation and the Registro Civil accept the routes in Hoja informativa 61 or their own rules. The safe route is a translation by a MAEC-appointed sworn translator. The seal is offered only for visa files.
Hoja 61 (May 2025) lists three Extranjería routes:
- A MAEC-appointed sworn translator.
- A translation made or reviewed by a Spanish consulate abroad, then legalised by MAEC.
- A translation by your country's consulate in Spain, then apostilled or legalised.
Route 2 can look like the visa seal, but they are not the same thing. The embassy offers the seal for visa files only and says it does not cover procedures in Spain. Route 2 also needs MAEC legalisation afterwards. So don't count a visa seal as route 2 unless the office handling your file confirms it in writing.
Plan for a sworn translation if you will:
- Apply for a residence card, renewal or arraigo: Extranjería sworn translation.
- Bring your spouse or children: family reunification sworn translation.
- Homologate your Indian degree: Indian degree homologation in Spain.
- Apply for Spanish nationality later: Spanish nationality sworn translation.
Tip: a correction notice gives you 10 working days (días hábiles) to reply (Ley 39/2015, art. 68). See correction notice sworn translation.
Do Mumbai and Bangalore applicants get the same options?
Not necessarily. Only the New Delhi embassy describes the seal; ask your consulate. Some Mumbai checklists exempt "passports and economic proof documents" from sworn translation. A Consulate General in Bangalore has been created, so check which mission covers your state.
Mumbai. The Consulate General covers Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. Its family reunification checklist asks for a "Sworn translation to Spanish … (except passports and economic proof documents)". Its digital nomad checklist wants all English documents translated by a traductor jurado. Read the Mumbai student visa checklist for your own case.
Bangalore (Bengaluru). For the Spanish consulate Bangalore question: Real Decreto 1194/2025 created a Consulate General in Bangalore for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Check which mission covers your state before applying, on the embassy's consulates page.
New Delhi. The embassy covers the northern and eastern states, including Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. It also covers Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives. See Nepali documents sworn translation for Spain and Sri Lankan documents sworn translation for Spain.
Common mistake: following a friend's checklist from another city. BLS International books appointments, but each mission sets its own list, including its BLS Spain translation rules for India.
When should I start translations before my visa appointment?
Start apostilles 6–8 weeks before your BLS appointment, and order translations about 3 weeks before. Certificates take 24–48 hours, degrees 24–48 hours and transcripts 2–5 working days, depending on length. Order the police clearance certificate last, because offices set its validity, commonly 3 to 6 months.
A simple plan:
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| 6–8 weeks before | Collect certificates; start state attestation and the MEA apostille |
| 3 weeks before | Order translations of apostilled documents |
| 2 weeks before | Approve the draft: names, dates, places |
| 1 week before | Receive PDFs; print what your checklist asks for |
Times by document:
- Birth certificate sworn translation into Spanish: 24–48 hours.
- Degree certificate sworn translation: 24–48 hours.
- Academic transcript sworn translation: 2–5 working days, depending on length.
- Police clearance certificate sworn translation: 24–48 hours; issued by the Regional Passport Office.
- Bank statement sworn translation: only if your mission asks.
Spanish time (CET/CEST) is 3.5–4.5 hours behind India. If your appointment is close, see urgent sworn translation. Work visa applicants have one month from notification to apply: see Spain work visa sworn translation.
What should I check before I book anything?
Check which mission covers your state, what its checklist says about translation, and whether you will file documents in Spain later. If so, a sworn translation saves paying twice. Then confirm the apostille is on every document before anything is translated.
- I know whether New Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore covers my state.
- I have read my own visa checklist, not a friend's.
- Every Indian document has its MEA apostille.
- My name is spelled the same on every document as in my passport.
- I know whether I will use these documents in Spain later.
- My police clearance certificate will still be valid on my appointment date.
- I have counted pages, for the seal fee or the translation quote.

Why trust an online sworn translation ordered from India?
Because you can check the translator and the terms before you pay anything. Four checks before you order from India:
- Is the translator real? Every translator we work with is MAEC-appointed and listed on the official register. Each page carries their seal and signature. You can check the translator on the MAEC list.
- What if the consulate or Extranjería rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds. Read our re-issue terms.
- Is my data safe? Files are deleted within 7 days of delivery. See our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
Is the embassy seal accepted after I arrive in Spain?
It depends on the office, but do not count on it. The embassy offers the seal only for visa files. Procedures inside Spain, such as Extranjería, homologation, nationality and the Registro Civil, follow their own rules, and a sworn translation is the safe route.
How long does the embassy take?
It depends. The embassy publishes no processing time for the seal. Ask when you email for your appointment, and leave extra time.
Does BLS accept translations without a sworn translator?
It depends on your mission and visa type. Some Mumbai checklists ask for a sworn translation. A MAEC sworn translation is official in Spain, so it meets a checklist asking for a sworn or official translation.
Do I need to translate my passport for a Spanish visa?
Usually not. Mumbai checklists exempt passports from sworn translation for some visa types. Check your own mission's checklist to be sure.
Can a sworn translator in Spain translate my documents from India?
Yes. Spanish law doesn't require sworn translators to live in Spain, and the work is done from scans. You can verify the translator on the official MAEC search before you pay.
Does a sworn translation need legalising before I submit it?
No, not for use in Spain. A MAEC sworn translation is official and valid in Spain without further legalisation. What needs the MEA apostille is your Indian document, before it is translated.

Can I order one sworn translation from India that works in Spain too?
Yes. Upload scans of your apostilled documents and name your mission, visa type or Spanish procedure, then get a fixed quote for your Indian certificates. Before any payment, the quote states the total and the delivery date. One sworn translation then serves your visa file and your later procedures in Spain.
