Your relatives' certificates must reach Extranjería in Spanish. We arrange the sworn translation (traducción jurada) by a MAEC-appointed translator. A certificate usually takes 24–48 hours, from €29. That is a starting price: you approve our written quotation before work starts.

Gathering your family's certificates? Marriage and birth certificates need an apostille, then a sworn translation into Spanish. See our family reunification sworn translation service.
Who can I bring to Spain through family reunification? (familiares reagrupables)
Under Hoja 8, a non-EU resident can bring a spouse or partner aged 18 or over, and children under 18. Adult children with a disability who need support also qualify. So do dependent parents over 65. Only one spouse or partner can be reunited.
Here is the full list from the Ministry of Inclusion sheet:
| Family member | Main condition | Document that proves the link |
|---|---|---|
| Spouse | Aged 18+; only one spouse | Marriage certificate |
| Partner (pareja) | Aged 18+; registered, or 12 months living together (less with children in common) | Registration or proof of cohabitation |
| Children | Under 18, or adult and unable to support themselves due to disability or health | Birth certificate |
| Parents (yours or your spouse's) | Over 65 and dependent on you; under 65 only for humanitarian reasons | Your birth certificate, plus proof of money sent |
| Adult child as carer | You have a recognised degree of dependency (Ley 39/2006) | Birth certificate, dependency resolution |
A remarried resident must show how the earlier marriage ended, so a divorce decree is often part of the file.
Common mistake: assuming children up to 26 can join. That rule belongs to the separate route for family of Spanish nationals (form EX-24). It does not apply here.
How long must I live in Spain before applying for reunification?
You must have lived legally in Spain for at least one year. You must also have applied to renew your permit for at least another year. Extranjería can approve your relative's permit only once your own renewal is actually granted, or you hold long-term residence.
Other conditions for you, the resident (reagrupante):
- You are not an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen.
- You are in Spain legally.
- You have no criminal record in Spain or in the countries where you lived for the last 5 years.
- Any children of school age already in Spain are enrolled in school.
Example: Amir from Pakistan got his first residence permit in March 2025. In March 2026 he applied to renew it. He can now file the EX-02 for his wife. Her permit is granted once his renewal comes through.
How much income do I need to reunite my family in Spain?
For a family of two, you and one relative, you need 150% of IPREM a month. Add 50% of IPREM for each further family member. With IPREM at €600 a month in 2026, that is €900 a month for two and €300 more per person.
| Family size (including you) | Share of IPREM | Monthly amount (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 people | 150% | €900 |
| 3 people | 200% | €1,200 |
| 4 people | 250% | €1,500 |
| 5 people | 300% | €1,800 |
Reuniting minors has softer rules. A stable income at or above the minimum wage (SMI) can count as enough. For a family of two where one is a minor, Hoja 8 uses 110% of the Ingreso Mínimo Vital instead.
Employees show their contract, 6 months of payslips and their latest tax return. Self-employed residents show their activity and tax returns. Spanish payslips need no translation. A statement from a bank outside Spain does. See bank statement sworn translation for Spain.
What is the housing report and how do I get it? (informe de vivienda)
The housing report (informe de vivienda adecuada) shows your home is suitable for your family. Your Comunidad Autónoma issues it, or your town hall where the region has set that up. It must be no more than 6 months old when you file the EX-02.
Steps:
- Request the report from your regional housing or social services office, or your ayuntamiento.
- Wait up to one month. If no report is issued and notified in that time, you may prove the housing another way.
- Use alternative proof if needed. Show your deed or rental contract, the rooms, who lives there and the home's condition. Add proof you asked for the report.
Tip: time the report against your renewal, as it lasts 6 months. Being Spanish, it needs no translation.
Which documents go with the EX-02 application?
The EX-02 file has two parts: your documents as the resident, and your relative's documents proving the family link. Hoja 8 says foreign documents must be translated by a "traductor jurado". Foreign public documents also need an apostille or legalisation.
From you (the resident):
- Form EX-02, filled in and signed.
- Full copy of your passport.
- Proof of income (see above).
- Housing report or alternative proof.
- Health insurance for you and your family.
- If reuniting a spouse or partner: a signed statement that you do not live with another spouse or partner in Spain.
From your relative:
- Full copy of their valid passport.
- Proof of the family link: a marriage certificate sworn translation or a birth certificate sworn translation.
- Where relevant: the ruling on an earlier marriage, custody papers or the other parent's consent, or proof you supported your parents during your last year in Spain.
- Proof of healthcare cover in Spain.
The order matters: apostille first, then translate the document and its apostille together. Our guide on apostille before sworn translation explains why.
You file in person at the Oficina de Extranjería of your province, or online through Mercurio. The fee is form 790, code 052, paid within 10 working days.
What does my relative need for the reunification visa?
Once the EX-02 is approved, your relative has 2 months from notification to apply in person at the Spanish consulate. They need a passport valid for at least 4 months. Adults also need a criminal record certificate and a medical certificate, plus original family documents.
| Visa document | What Hoja 8 asks | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Passport | Valid at least 4 months | Spelling must match every certificate |
| Criminal record certificate | Adults; origin country or countries of residence, last 5 years | Validity set by each consulate, commonly 3 to 6 months |
| Medical certificate | Required | Check your consulate's date rule |
The Spanish Embassy in New Delhi accepts marriage and birth certificates for 3 months, and police and medical certificates for 6 months. Other consulates set their own limits. See the New Delhi family reunification page.
For the police certificate, see police clearance certificate sworn translation. For the health check, see medical certificate sworn translation. For the consulate stage as a whole, see sworn translation for a Spain visa.
Routes differ by country:
- India: state attestation, then the MEA apostille: Indian documents for Spain.
- Pakistan: NADRA records and nikah nama, MOFA apostille: Pakistani documents for Spain.
- Philippines: PSA certificates and NBI clearance, DFA apostille: Philippine documents for Spain.
English records still need a Spanish translation: see English to Spanish sworn translation.
Visa window already open? Your relative has 2 months from notification. A standard certificate translation takes 24–48 hours once the apostilled scan arrives.
How long does family reunification take, from EX-02 to TIE?
Extranjería has 2 months to decide the EX-02; no answer by then means refusal by silence. Your relative then has 2 months to apply for the visa. The consulate decides within one month. Collection, entry and the TIE application each have one-month windows.
| Stage | Deadline (Hoja 8) |
|---|---|
| Pay the EX-02 fee | Within 10 working days of filing |
| Extranjería decides | 2 months; silence means refusal |
| Relative applies for the visa | Within 2 months of notification |
| Consulate decides | Within 1 month |
| Collect the visa | Within 1 month of notification |
| Enter Spain | Within 1 month of collection |
| Apply for the TIE | Within 1 month of entry |
If Extranjería sends a correction notice (requerimiento), you have 10 working days (días hábiles) under Ley 39/2015, art. 68. See correction notice sworn translation. For tight dates, use our urgent sworn translation service.
Tip: certificates for the EX-02 may be too old by the visa stage. Our guide to sworn translation validity in Spain explains when you need a new one.
What changed for family reunification under RD 1155/2024?
The Reglamento de Extranjería, RD 1155/2024, has applied since 20 May 2025. Hoja 8 now covers unregistered partners after 12 months living together. It adds an adult child as carer for a dependent resident. It also eases the income rule for minors.
Check the current Hoja 8 before you file, as the sheet is updated from time to time.
Family of Spanish nationals use form EX-24; family of EU citizens use EX-19. For residence procedures in general, see Extranjería sworn translation.
What should be on my family reunification checklist?
- One year of legal residence, and your renewal applied for
- Income of at least 150% IPREM, plus 50% per extra person
- Housing report, under 6 months old
- Health insurance for everyone
- Marriage or birth certificates, apostilled and sworn-translated
- Divorce or custody papers where they apply
- Police and medical certificates timed for the visa appointment
- Names checked against each passport
How do you make sure the family file is right?
A family file fails on small things: one misspelt name, one missing apostille.
- Is the translator real? Every translator we work with is a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by MAEC. Their seal and signature are on every page, so you can verify a Spanish sworn translator on the official MAEC list.
- What if Extranjería rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds, for example parents' names that differ between a child's birth certificate and the marriage certificate. See our re-issue policy.
- Is my family's data safe? Files are deleted within 7 days of delivery. See the privacy policy.
- What does it cost? From €29 per certificate. These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it. See sworn translation prices.

Frequently asked questions
Can I bring my parents to Spain?
It depends. They must be over 65 and dependent on you, with reasons that justify it. Under 65 is possible only for humanitarian reasons, and special residence-time rules apply.
Can my children over 18 join me?
Usually not. Adult children qualify only if they cannot support themselves because of a disability or their health. The "under 26" rule is for family of Spanish nationals.
Does my wife need a sworn translation of our marriage certificate?
Yes, if it is not in Spanish. Hoja 8 asks for translations by a sworn translator. The apostille or legalisation goes on first.
How long is the family reunification permit valid?
It ends on the same date as your own permit, with a minimum of one year. It is renewed together with yours.
Can my spouse work after arriving?
Yes. A spouse, partner or working-age child can work for an employer or be self-employed. No extra permit is needed.
