Sworn translations into Spanish by MAEC-appointed translators

Spain visa requirements from Pakistan: family, work, study and visits

Short answer: The Spain visa requirements for Pakistan depend on the visa. Family reunification and work visas start in Spain: a resident relative or an employer gets the permit first. Students and visitors apply directly. Every long-stay file needs Pakistani documents with the MOFA apostille and a Spanish translation by an authorised translator.

Living in Spain and bringing your wife, children or parents from Pakistan? Start with the sponsor section: your part of the file goes to the Oficina de Extranjería.

Which Spain visa should a Pakistani national apply for?

It depends on why you are going. Joining a resident relative means family reunification, which the relative starts in Spain. A job offer means a work visa, which the employer starts. Studying means a student visa. A short trip means a Schengen visa. Each has its own checklist.

Plan Who starts it Where Key Pakistani documents
Join a relative living in Spain The resident, on form EX-02 Extranjería, then the Embassy FRC, MRC, nikah nama, birth and police certificates
Job in Spain The employer Extranjería, then the Embassy Birth and police certificates, medical certificate
Study over 90 days The student The Embassy Admission, funds, police and medical certificates
Visit up to 90 days The traveller The visa application centre Bank statements, FRC, tax records

The Embassy of Spain in Pakistan's checklists are published by its visa application centre at thespainvisa.com.

How does a resident in Spain bring family from Pakistan? (reagrupación familiar)

The resident files form EX-02 at the Oficina de Extranjería. They need at least one year of residence and a renewal applied for, enough income, suitable housing and health insurance. Once Extranjería approves, the family member has two months from notification to apply for the visa in person.

The rules come from the Ministry of Inclusion's Hoja 8 (May 2025).

Sponsor requirement What Hoja 8 says
Residence At least one year in Spain, with a renewal for another year applied for
Income 150 per cent of IPREM a month for two people, plus 50 per cent per extra person
Housing A suitable-housing report from the regional or local authority, under six months old
Insurance Sponsor and every family member

With IPREM at €600 a month in 2026, that is about €900 a month for two people. Each extra family member adds about €300.

Who can join you? One spouse or partner over 18, children under 18, and dependent parents over 65 (younger only on humanitarian grounds).

Example: Imran, in Barcelona for 14 months with his renewal filed, applies for his wife and two children in Gujrat. His Spanish payslips need no translation; their Pakistani certificates do.

After approval, the consulate decides within one month. The visa is collected, and Spain entered, within one month each. Each person then applies for a TIE within one month of entry.

Hoja 8 asks for foreign documents translated by a "traductor jurado". Our full guide to family reunification visa requirements covers other nationalities.

What does the Spanish embassy in Pakistan ask family members for?

The Embassy's spouse checklist (20 October 2025) asks for the sponsor's residence permit, birth certificates, the MRC, the nikah nama, the FRC and police certificates. It adds a medical certificate and proof of the relationship. Pakistani certificates need a Spanish translation.

Key items from the spouse checklist:

  • The sponsor's residence authorisation, original and copy.
  • Birth certificates of both spouses, apostilled by MOFA and translated into Spanish.
  • Marriage Registration Certificate (MRC) and nikah nama, translated into Spanish.
  • Family Registration Certificate (FRC) from NADRA, apostilled, listing every family member.
  • Police certificates from every country lived in during the last five years; MOFA apostille for Pakistan.
  • Medical certificate under the International Health Regulations 2005; no apostille, but translated.
  • Proof of support and contact: transfer certificates; for recent marriages, six months of chats or photos.

Missing documents must arrive within "a fifteen-day period", or the application is dismissed.

Tip: the checklist says the MRC is "legalised" by MOFA and then by the Embassy. Pakistan has used the apostille since March 2023. Ask the Embassy if your checklist still says legalisation.

What are the Spain work visa requirements for Pakistani workers?

The Spanish employer applies first for a residence and work authorisation at the Oficina de Extranjería. Once it is notified, the worker has one month to apply for the visa in person. The Embassy then asks for an apostilled birth certificate, police certificates and a medical certificate, all in Spanish.

Hoja 12 also requires any qualification legally needed for the job, homologated where needed.

The Embassy's work visa checklist (20 October 2025) lists:

  1. Passport valid for one year, forms and photographs.
  2. The original residence and work authorisation.
  3. Birth certificate apostilled by MOFA, translated into Spanish.
  4. Police reports from every country lived in for five years, apostilled and translated.
  5. Medical certificate, translated but not apostilled.

Translations must be "made by an authorized translator". Our Spain work visa sworn translation page explains the one-month window. See also police clearance certificate sworn translation.

What do Pakistani students need for a Spanish study visa?

The national sheet asks for admission to an authorised centre, €600 a month in funds and health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain. Adults staying over six months add a police certificate and a medical certificate. Apply at least two months before your course starts.

The student checklist on the visa centre site is dated January 2017, so confirm the current list with the Embassy. It asks for:

  • education certificates attested by HEC (degrees) or IBCC (school certificates), then MOFA;
  • a police character certificate from the National Police Bureau, Islamabad, issued within six months;
  • bank statements for the last six months, signed by a bank official;
  • translations from English into Spanish by a sworn translator (Traductor Jurado).

The national rules are on the Ministry's Estancia por estudios sheet. For the full student file, see Spain student visa sworn translation. Our Spain student visa guide for Indian students covers renewals and job-search residence, which work the same for Pakistanis.

Do Pakistanis need a visa to visit Spain for tourism or family?

Yes. Pakistani nationals need a Schengen short-stay visa for visits of up to 90 days. The Embassy's checklist asks for medical insurance covering €30,000, six months of bank statements, tax records and the NADRA FRC. Apply at least 15 days before travel.

The Schengen checklist also lists flight and accommodation bookings, a National Tax Number certificate and FBR return acknowledgements for two years. Employees add payslips and a leave letter. It wants the FRC "issued in English by NADRA" and sets no general translation rule. A tourist visa is not a route to residence.

How are Pakistani documents apostilled and translated for a Spanish visa?

Pakistan has used the apostille since 9 March 2023, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Degrees go to HEC and school certificates to IBCC before MOFA. Once the apostille is on, a sworn translator translates the document and its apostille into Spanish.

  1. Collect the document and attest education documents at HEC or IBCC.
  2. Apostille at MOFA.
  3. Translate document and apostille together. Our guide on why the apostille comes before the sworn translation explains the order.

A sworn translation, by a translator appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC), is official in Spain without further legalisation.

Most NADRA documents are in English, so they go through English to Spanish sworn translation. Nikah namas often have Urdu and English columns that can disagree, for example on the dower (haq mehr). The translator reproduces exactly what is written. For Urdu-only pages, see sworn translation from other languages.

Living in Spain? Request the police character certificate through the Embassy of Pakistan in Madrid, then get the MOFA apostille. Lived in the UK too? See UK documents for Spain. For both steps in one order, see apostille and sworn translation.

How recent must Pakistani certificates be for a Spanish visa?

Validity is set by each office, commonly 3 to 6 months. The 2017 student checklist wants police certificates issued within six months, and Hoja 8 a housing report under six months old. Order the police certificate last.

Document Validity to plan for
Police character certificate Often 6 months; check your checklist
Housing report (sponsor in Spain) Under 6 months at filing
Medical certificate Ask the Embassy; many consulates use 3 months

Is your Pakistani visa file complete?

Check each line before your appointment.

  • The sponsor's residence authorisation is notified, and the two-month window is open (family files).
  • Every Pakistani public document carries the MOFA apostille.
  • Degrees went through HEC, school certificates through IBCC.
  • The FRC lists every family member.
  • Names match each passport across the FRC, MRC and nikah nama.
  • Police certificates cover every country lived in for five years.
  • Translations include each apostille page.

What should Pakistani families check before paying for translations?

One rejected NADRA paper can delay a whole family. Every page of your translation carries the sworn translator's official seal and signature.

  • Is the translator real? Every translator we work with is MAEC-appointed and on the official register. You can check a sworn translator on the MAEC list.
  • What if the Embassy or Extranjería rejects it? Free, prioritised re-issue if rejected on formal grounds. See our re-issue policy.
  • Is my family's data safe? Your files are deleted within 7 days of delivery. See our privacy policy.
  • What does it cost? As an indicative market range, sworn translations in Spain cost about €30–120 a page: roughly €30–80 for the first page and €15–40 for later pages (Cronoshare, January 2026). This is a market range, not our price. Ours start from €29 per certificate, or from €49 for Urdu documents; see our sworn translation price list. These are starting prices. For your final price, send your details through the quote form. We email you a written quotation, and work starts only after you approve it.
